Only came to point out that child support is to support the child (of course...). Where as what he said about alimony in relation to taking time off to care for children covers alimony being used to cover the lost time/experience suffered by raising a child, not the actual cost of raising a child. This is all part of what it "should" be. A way to get the person back on their feet after losing their main income, which is particularly hard if you've had 1-20 years off to raise children and thus ha…

Oscar Wilde said it best "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about" For something that is big and popular, bad press is bad. For something obscure, unknown and that would be passed over, bad press is actually rather beneficial. It raises awareness and at least some people will overlook the negative part.

It took a lot of effort to get past the absolutely horrible use of English there. Good to see that the "bish" was found guilty. You'd have more credibility in the retelling of this story is you used real words and didn't swear every five words or so...

I read this in a newspaper in Sydney, Australia yesterday. Stating how he had raped her and was kicked out and was going to court. I will admit to having the thought go through my head "I bet this will be on the Men's Rights Reddit and there will be something wrong with it." To find out they'd totally misreported the events to this level was shocking. They stated that she had drank (not mentioning if he had) and she went to bed alone. That he then got into her bed while she was passed out and ra…

My comment at the bottom covers our difference of opinion. You're obviously opposed to medicare, whereas I'm not. So we won't see eye to eye on this :p

You've really taken my statements and had a field day there. This is a rather specialist case in which a medical procedure is the intended outcome. It's nothing like having your wallet stolen. If a Man had his arm cut off but couldn't afford the reattachment surgery, would you be saying the government shouldn't cover it and have him pay it back later? Same thing here except the person repaying would be the rapist (if and when convicted) My points about eye for an eye actually DO refer to a degre…

That is a good point, however given that an abortion has a deadline it may be wise to hand funding immediately over to the government who can then try to regain their money from the perpetrator on the wronged parties behalf. This of course is giving special consideration to all deadline based operations, not just rape. Someone cuts off your arm and you can't afford to re-attach it? The government will cover it, then get their money back from the hatchet wielding psycho. Either directly or throug…

While I agree with what you're saying about the lack of rights given to Men in these situations. I disagree that the state shouldn't help foot the bill (some if not all). Just because one party is wronged doesn't mean we should wrong the other out of spite. Eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and all that. We should be aiming to help everyone. Not deny one group because another is similarly denied.

Alright I like a challenge :) -This is anti-freedom. Agreed. Though it sounds like your argument is less against the use of BLA for screening purposes and more about how they treat you if you fail. Perhaps a middle ground of "BLA to see if you're over the limit, if you are a competency test to see if you're incapable of driving" would be a better way. This however still has the flaws of the old system. While BLA may seem all negative it can also protect you from overzealous police sticking you f…

Maybe you can. The reason for arbitrary ruling is because it is applicable to the supposed majority. The tests for impairment are very unreliable and often come with a great deal of bias from the examiner (e.g: say the alphabet backwards, walk in a straight line, calculate pi to 50 places (if they want you to fail)). BAL tests are there because they are definite, you have xxx level and that is illegal. You may be perfectly capable of driving, but studies show that the majority of people at that …

The chilling part of this is how he makes mention of smart legal practice and fair treatment for all, then willingly decides to go against it. "the bill he has introduced mandates that state criminal codes refer to these people as simply accusers until there is a conviction in the matter." It just seems twisted to me that they can't realise that until the crime has been confirmed the person declaring it happened is an accuser. This is typical of Australia (where i am from fyi) We have ad campaigns constantly saying "violence against women: Australia says no!". It just strikes me as absurd that they don't just say "no violence against anyone!", they never mention nor acknowledge DV or just plain V against Men in any public announcement. Even the announcements from a few years back about the child sex industry focused on it purely from the angle of protecting young girls. Just strange when it is an issue that not only d…

I think it's probably aiming to say that despite being paid more by the hour, the Men make more yearly. Loosely and inefficiently saying Men work more to compensate for less pay to make the wage gap appear real when they end up earning more come years end. e.g: 5 hours at 10 dollars = 50 versus 20 hours at 2.5 dollars = 50, then make it 2.5 at 30 hours = 75 and TADA the second group is paid 50% more yearly. Even though they worked three times harder for it, that can be omitted to make a statisti…

Anyone who has actually worked fulltime earning over 100K and also worked as a fulltime parent at home will agree they'd choose being at home ANY day of the week comparatively. Honestly, the only thing i hate about the "stay-at-home-momming was the hardest job in the world" bit is that it gives the Women the impression that when the Man comes home from work and is too tired to help with the chores (which apparently is her job...) he is just a lazy bum. "Single moms are no worse parents than single dads, or queer/trans couples that adopt." Show me your study. The onus is on the first one to say it. I remember a while back reading a study Glenn linked that showed that single father households produced lower crime rates in their children and generally higher achievement in academia. Your lack of knowledge is disturbing. Yes, a child does benefit from two HAPPY married biological parents the most. It also benefits from two HAPPY divorced biological parents more than two unhappy married ones. It also benefits more from a single father than single mother. If they disagree that they were raped, they are saying they consented, which means it wasn't rape. With very little exception.
/r/MensRights11/12/09 02:39 AM

You seem to forget that rape requires not only a lack of consent but also the Mans knowledge that there was no consent. So if the Woman says it wasn't rape, then she consented. Which means it wasn't rape. In assault what defines it as assault is one person injuring/hitting another. The reason for this difference is because consent is all that changes sex into rape, and sex last i checked was perfectly legal.

The only practical solution i could see would be further redefinition and creation of new words. For instance, theft below $200 (aka, cheaper than most iPods) would be known as petty theft, to use the name theft for it would be (in journalism) an act with consequences. This may sound extreme, but it would stop them from twisting words like that. No longer can they say, "1/4 people will experience theft" they' have to say "1 in 30 experience theft, yet 1 in 4 experience petty theft". Which sounds…

Well, all the huff about strength aside, it does make a significant difference. Though it doesn't matter how much of it you have if you don't know how to use it effectively. Bruce Lee may have been skinny, but he was incredibly strong (all that lovely lean muscle) and there is no way you can believe that his strength plays no part in it. Between untrained combatants it basically comes down to three or four things IMO. 1) Who gets the first hit? That singular hit can do some of the biggest damage…

Minor violence yes, by minor i mean something along the lines of a slap that doesn't bruise, perhaps a shove that doesn't injure in any way. It's almost totally unavoidable, and would probably be an accident most of the time. Major violence however, hitting and leaving bruises, picking up weapons, drawing blood. Those things cross incredible lines.

It's a fine line really, between discouraging them from recanting at all and letting them get away with it. The problem lies with the fact that Men and Women equally abuse. Women suffer more injury, but not as much as you'd think and for Women to even compete in the injury department, it shows that they are if anything more violent. Focusing on the wider topic would be wonderful, if only someone would do it.

Australia has an ad campaign "Violence against Women, Australia says 'No'!" I've never understood why they didn't just say, violence against everyone. There are over 10 ads all of them focusing on a Women (or little girl) being beaten by a Man. Yet we still get morons saying "It's only one ad." yes, it is one ad. I agree on that one, violence is generally unavoidable. We shouldn't condone it, but we shouldn't deny it. Also, it should be equally tolerated for Men and Women. IE, slapping them = OK. Hitting them with golf club = over the limit. (sorry Tiger)

Something very similar to that. I'd say it was more of a "we are different but equal". Women do what they do well, Women generally sit in the middle of the bell curve, Women thanks to evolution, biology and a few other reasons have different thought patterns and goals to Men. Some Men are worthless bums, some Men are amazingly brilliant. Men tend to fall on one side or the other of the bell curve, as such Men tend to be at the forefront pushing forward society/technology. The only issue is really trying to balance the workforce without forcing people into jobs they don't deserve. It's all well and good to say 80% of teachers are female, however the reason has to be looked at. Is it because Men don't want to be teachers? or because they are scared off from being teachers? I see the point of it, i just suppose that two wrongs don't make a right. Rather than trying to "fix" it now, they should be putting in place protection from it happening again. The article isn't required to mention it. Though it would be interesting to actually find some stats that say how this turned out for Norway. Emotional cheating isn't exactly a legal term. Though that can occur to anyone as deception and lying about your feelings towards someone, is very easy to do. Not very nice either. Cheating requires some sort of dishonesty, swindling or lying. Men can have sex without emotion and feel just fine. It is a driving need for Men to get it. Doesn't mean love and passion don't help it become a better experience but it is not a requirement for our approach to what is in Men a very real and physical need. Men who don't have sex fall into all sorts of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. The simple act of relieving oneself with a partner, with or without love, staves that off. But as i said, love will always make it better.

Men committed to rethinking gender stereotypes, to empowering all humanity to fulfil itspotential, and to committing to bringing about full and genuine equality between the sexes would be misguided in thinking that a men's group could ever help to accomplish these aims. Because, you know us Men. When we get in groups all we do is drink, break things and gang rape people? Right? Feminism, just like anything else can be defined simply. People make it complex because they don't know how to reconcile what they feel with the goals of the title they chose for themselves. The easiest definition of a group (feminists, conservatives, republicans, KKK, etc.) is to look to the leaders of those groups. What are the "movers and shakers" supporting. If these people do not support the qualities that the leaders do, then they are not feminists. They are individuals with their own idea…

I couldn't link you to them, you'd have to ask Pierce. However through the course of following his site I've seen countless links to rape support groups and the like who constantly spout that Women would never, ever, ever, ever, ever lie about rape. I've personally seen it quoted on over 20 of these types of sites, it seems to be a fairly common theme amongst the rape support network.

You raise a good point. However, without witnesses, video, other evidence, etc. You have to side with "innocent until proven guilty" which means she lied. Doesn't mean we should press charges (against her), we can't be certain she was lying, but that is the way we should be leaning until something changes our mind.

Point taken. However in the case of an undisclosed STD she still said yes, without the condom in this situation she is saying no. Though it comes down to the circumstances of the situation, ie. did she struggle when he tried without the condom? did she say "no"? did she make it clear to him it was not on? If the answer to all three is yes, then i think it falls under rape.

The way that the staff are handling the whole situation is disgusting. I do agree that it can often be better for the child to be adopted rather than taken care of by young parents. Because catching that one predator is worth it at the cost of endangering several innocent men. Bad things happen but we can't let our fear of them lead us into a situation where we could punish the innocent. If children are unreliable then they are unreliable, we can't let our fears that one of them may be reliable cloud the fact that most of them aren't. It is even more tilted in the Womans favour in Australia. I had a friend who had severe mental issues (currently in therapy), was alcoholic and unable to hold a job. This was weighed against the Father who had a stable job for many years, had a brilliant and supportive family and did every possible thing he could to make his son happy. She still won and most of her friends disagreed with that. Doesn't change it. edit Oh, also add that she was having an affair.

The question is, have you been physically hurt more by the people you love/date? or people you don't know? Being hurt is part of life, whether or not it is really an issue comes down to whether you're being hurt/hit an unreasonable amount. I'd also like to see statistics on how the crime was reported. For instance, when a man hits a woman WHO reported it. A neighbour? A child? The Woman? or maybe even the Man? I'd also like to see this weighed against when Women hit Men. If in the case of a Woman being hit it is mostly (or more so than men) reported by the Woman. I guess that is the problem, in my post above this thread i mention that some rapists will escape. It is the attitude that SOMETHING must be done that has lead to such a demand for action, when no more action can be taken legally, we redefine the law. So we come to; men being arrested and basically convicted in the public eye on the say so of a woman. We took action, too much action. Rape is probably the worst in that it leaves so little in the way of evidence and whatever evidence was there can…

The real truth is; some rapists will get away. It makes me sick that it has to be so, but it has been quoted many times "better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer". They don't always arrest them to question them. Given they have no evidence other than the testimony of the alleged victim, it really shouldn't be the case. As for how long questioning goes, i guess that really depends on the circumstances however in this particular story it doesn't sound like a lot questioning went on.
