So you don't have any examples?

No, I didn't miss your point. I don't think women want an entire abolition of gender because women do deserve preferential treatment in some instances, such as with pregnancy and maternity leave. The thing is that feminists, like other people, disagree with each other on certain topics. There was a good deal of infighting within PETA recently when deciding whether or not to support test-tube grown meat, something that would arguably save numerous animals from slaughter. Also, if all feminists ri…

Yes, but that was not the choice of female policy makers. Plus, we haven't had the draft since Vietnam, and it's highly unlikely we ever will again.

I think you misunderstand what "men can't be feminists" means. It's not saying that men aren't allowed; it's saying they're incapable.

I swear, you guys are the most confrontational bunch I've ever encountered. I'll reiterate that what I was asking is that, based solely on the definition of feminism, if those here would consider themselves feminists or not. Examples of feminism doing good or bad were not what I initially wanted to discuss. And what I've seen on here -- everyone saying how awful feminism is without hardly ever giving any reasons or concrete examples and only a couple people being honest enough to say they don't …

Have you ever actually spoken to a feminist?

That's actually a big goal of some transgendered activists (such as gender-neutral housing and bathrooms), and there are numerous children's schools that avoid gender roles.

Uh, lots more women are serving in the armed forces, and that's not at the behest of men.

I'm gonna need some examples of said laws.

No, you're assuming that that's what I meant. The misunderstandings of which I spoke are those of redditors who believe feminists are essentially the opposite of MRAs, and they are painfully incorrect. Also, the anecdotal evidence to which I am referring is the sorts of stories you see on Reddit that claim some crazy feminist went on some crazy tangent (I saw one of these recently on The Red Pill. I will attempt to find it later when I'm not on mobile). I prefaced this discussion with those comm…

It seems like you're refusing to acknowledge what I'm saying about news media coverage of movements and ideologies. Also, I cannot read the article you posted without paying.

The articles to which you linked (I'd seen one of them before) all make excellent points about how men can't separate themselves from their privilege long enough to actually understand women's issues, and I think that is a completely valid point. Guys are socially conditioned to have to control things, and it stands to reason that they might take over discussions in feminist circles. One of the writers says she had experienced this firsthand. Also, men often call themselves feminists as a way to…

I was not asking people commenting here to talk on the history of feminism. I was asking everyone to reflect on the original definition. That is painfully simple.

And your best guess is correct? More correct than the authors of the study? Talking about happiness of Americans opens an entirely different can of worms. We're overworked and underpaid, and the rest of the world is figuring out that we don't need to work 40+ hours a week since there are so many of us. However, we as Americans have not yet collectively reached that same understanding. I see this less as a feminist issue and more as a working rights issue.

My question was very specifically tailored to just the definition of feminism for the express purpose of an attempt to get a consensus from Redpill to see if women's rights are supported or not. I asked that people not bring in anecdotal evidence of one thing or another because, as I stated, it should not be the initial focus. You don't study Christianity by first talking about The Crusades or The Great Awakening; you start with The Bible.

Thank you. So, while I should read the whole thing, I do not have the attention span for that, so I read through the conclusion. What stood out to me is that, while the authors mention the women's rights movement, they say that the way it would decrease happiness for women is either that they feel like they can be more honest about how they feel, or that women now compare themselves to the other half of the population rather than just other women, therefore giving them more competition in some r…

Okay, the "One doesn't have to look far" quote is disingenuous dribble. I have never once encountered a feminist, in real life or online who has expressed that men can't be feminists. Also, he tries to phrase this so he doesn't have to prove it. Why, oh why, would you listen to someone who words things so ambiguously so as to dodge accountability? Furthermore, the Republican analogy doesn't hold up because Republicanism is a multifaceted ideology, and feminism has a one-sentence definition that …

I'd like a citation on the stats of women's happiness, please.

Actually, feminists are all about rights for women in the third world. It's a huge topic in feminist discussions, and it's one with no easy answer. Just because you don't hear about it, though, doesn't mean it isn't happening. I'd recommend going to a local university and sitting in on some feminist talks. The perception of feminists really only pertains to the tumblr variety and not those engaged in doing public service.

First, I'd like to see the articles and polling to which you are referring. Second, I'd counter that what is truly bankrupting this country is military spending (we're 1st in the world by light years) and tax breaks for the wealthy (Mitt Romney only pays 11% on his taxes, much less than anyone I know). Third, I hope you realize you're marginalizing the lived experiences of all men and women by placing them in such stringent molds. I know (and I realize this is anecdotal, but it's what I have to …

I really am trying to stay on topic here. I'm not asking you about your beliefs or trying to start a broad discussion on who has what rights. I'm asking a simple, yes-or-no question that I know you are capable of answering; do you support equal rights for men and women? That's all. I'll play ball with your question if you just answer mine.

Please refer to the question again. I am not talking about problems around feminism. I'm only asking that, knowing the definition, if you support feminism as a concept.

Thank you for the straightforward nature of your reply. Would you care to elaborate?

Don't dodge the question. Do you or don't you support equal rights for men and women?

Feminism is defined as striving for equal rights for men and women. You're opposed to equal rights?

I'd guess any sort of physical resistance that a guy might deem to not be genuine. That's what bothers me about the whole "token resistance" thing, though. The man is making up his own rules based off his interpretations of what the woman does. After I graduated from high school, there was this girl who I kept talking to. We flirted via text, and when we hung out, I assumed I was most likely good to go, but my advances were completely shunned. So, for whatever reason, the girl did not reciprocat…

Then say that. Don't talk about the supposed feelings as if you have read it. Or, you know, just read it.

People do things all the time because they see them as better alternatives. If someone comes up to you and says, "Give me your money," you'll most likely say no. If he pulls out a knife or a gun, you'll probably reconsider. You won't put up a fight either because you don't want to be harmed. As I see it, a woman who says no but is then still pressured might very well see letting the man have his way as the safest way out of the situation, but that does not mean for one second that she's okay wit…
