Gotta be honest, I always saw Amalthea's arc more as being about becoming more human, and developing the capacity for deeper, more complex, but painful emotions. I know the song's called "Now that I'm a woman" lol, but the lyrics and imagery point me to humanity in general, rather than femininity in specific. Unless you're also referring to her heterosexual love for Lir. I haven't read the book yet, so I'll take your word for it regarding Lir!

I watched the last unicorn, but never really saw it as a story about gender or masculinity/femininity. I'm interested in that perspective though, could you say a bit more about it?
