Where I'm from pretty much all my peers have degrees, and a lot of them are working retail or office makework jobs because they couldn't get anything else with their major. I totally don't think getting a degree is a problem (I have one) but I think a lot of people are pushed by their parents into getting one when they have no idea what they'll do with it. The problems are, in my opinion, the sheer amount of women who want A Career when many have no actual ambition or motivation to get anything beyond office desk work, combined with the immense pressure to go to college for the sake of going to college when many women (hell, many people, but mostly women) go into overpopulated fields with weak job markets.
