Well for most of human history women have been property. Dowrys still exist and even the idea of a father 'giving away a bride' are still artefacts of this bygone era. Women suffrage was fairly recent. Husbands were legally able to rape their wives and this continued into surprisingly recent times. Again, this makes sense given women's position as property. Women are participates in toxic masculinity too, unfortunately. I grew up in a low socio-economic area and the girls and guys from that area just straight up defined toxic masculinity. Men were expected to be this unemotional rock whose only real emotion was anger. Women would love their men fighting for them (I dated a girl who loved to start fights because she thought me fighting was hot). It's horrible. Any type of enforced gender stereotype is harmful. Why do you feel shamed by the phrase toxic masculinity? There's masculinity and there's toxic masculinity. It's pretty easy to identify. Men not crying is a great example to bring up of toxic masculinity. If a man cries and is ridiculed by other men...that's not the man crying displaying toxic masculinity it's the one's ridiculing him. I don't see how that is victim blaming, quite the opposite.
