The ATAR is just the entry score required for the course, this is usually decided based on popularity of the course, demand/supply, etc. It doesn't mean that a person with a lower ATAR score will necessarily fail. Either way, once admitted, the individual still needs to pass like everyone else regardless of how they got in.
