Well that certainly is an immature, passive aggressive way to communicate.

Yep. I was married for 21 years with two kids, she kept my last name. No biggie.

Go do things. Accept every invite. You can’t meet people if you aren’t engaging with them.

There are so many single women looking for sex (plus a bit of chase with some bonding) that it always made it more fun, less stressful and no cost. Have you given that route a chance? Make sure you’re clear about your intention in an adult way.

My first wife was objectively super hot. She wasn’t a nice person to me. My current partner wouldn’t be classified exactly the same, but she is supportive, kind, understanding, generous and is 100% in my corner and tells me she loves me multiple times a day. I came out 1000x better. Looks aren’t everything and I could not be happier right now.

My exwife moved out and the process seemed much smoother than others I know that went through similar issues. Also, I think she knew there was no way on gods green earth that I would leave that house. I sold it, but that was a year later and another $90k in home appreciation that we split.

Divorced for 5 years… this is a marathon my friend, not a race. It takes years and years and not month and months. As soon I got to a point I was making progress, I’d get in a rut and then get back up and start going. I’m 100x better now, but I’m never going to be the exact same man I was before. Whether that is good or bad still remains to be seen. I’m happier now than I’ve been since the divorce so I’m still moving in the right direction. I wish you well on your journey.

Was married +20 years…. these responses are extremely spot on to my experience. Ex had a group of divorced girlfriends she was hanging out with a lot, which seemed fine, hang out with whoever. But over a couple years that “independent woman” and “I think I’m missing out on something” started simmering to the top… out of the blue (for me) I get the “I’m done and I’m never coming back”. Was more pissed about the lack of communication and “I didn’t want to talk about it because you would have convi…

I was alone during lockdown and once that eased just doing stuff with strangers or acquaintances lifted my spirits tremendously. Eventually after a year I met my current girlfriend, when I truly wasn’t looking for someone like that.

Pick up a small hobby or interest and you’ll find like minded people. Gardening, guitar, hiking, woodworking, whatever. If you’re invited to ANYTHING, go and check it out. If it’s not your thing you can always bail. Make yourself open to new and different things. New experiences and situations will help you grow and hopefully start moving on… good luck friend.

I’m 3 years out and I’m still mad I got halved. She’ll inherit a shit ton on money and took half of mine leaving me to start over at 50. The rage has settled, but I’m still bitter. 21 years married and left without notice and just a phone call saying I’m never coming back… can’t imagine the rage the throat cancer guy must have burdened

My exwife did not contribute much, but she got 1/2 of everything and no amount of lawyer money was going to change the laws the judge was following. A lot of this depends on the state or states involved. Sorry you have to deal with this.

My exwife and I got 50/50 with my kids. I declined alimony from her. After 6 months my 16 going on 18 year old decided she liked her moms unsupervised home more than my “I’m home by 5pm” presence. She has a room at my place and all the food, Wi-Fi, Netflix, Spotify, etc needs met. She comes by a few times a week for dinner, but when my ex asked me for money since my daughter was staying with her, I said nope. I have all those needs met here. I met an old female friend from college. She was divorced about 15+ years ago. We started seeing each other a bit and talked about what we wanted…”she wanted a relationship where we are apart in our own homes, but together in sharing time at each others and not looking for someone else…” and that sounded about the same thing I was looking for. Been seeing each other for about 18 months and it’s awesome sex, real intimacy and low stress. We have had literally zero fights or arguments and love eac…

I said that I didn’t need or want her money. It was weird how they figured it out. I’m self employed and took the first 6 months of the pandemic off while she continued working. It looked like she earned more than me the previous two years, but in reality I have the higher earning potential.

I have 50/50 custody and I declined spousal support and child support so we both had equal opportunities to start over with an even slate. My ex still wanted money for my children’s food, but I was firm in that if they need food, they can come to my place and eat all they want and I’ll cook almost any night. My kids both have cars and live under 10 minutes away. I’m not Uber eats, I’m not a meal ticket and I’m not your husband….

I had a 4 bed, 3 bath, end of cul de sac. 1/3 acre. 28 fruit trees and a huge garden. Mortgage was $1600. I am now currently renting a 2 bed 1 bath for $2000/month. Hindsight is 20/20 but I should have liquidated 401k to buy her out. Lesson learned

You can have the best lawyer in the world, but the judge has to sign off. Plus depends on your state. I’m glad mine is over. My ex did mediate tho. Made things more even in my opinion.

Can we change “stay single” to something else? I mean you can have fulfilling relationships, experiences and dynamics with women and not have to get married. Staying single sounds too much like celibacy or something less fulfilling than meaningful or just plain fun relationships. Not all interactions with women should end badly and you definitely have them while not being single or married…. Just my impression

Which is now I wait until I’m ordered. And then you get the “Dead Beat Dad!!!!” I’m way more fortunate than most guys here, but I’ve given this woman nearly $400k in cash and retirement accounts. Every other penny goes to me and my kids now.

I’m 47 and got halved as well. It sucks. You were smart and hard working enough to save it up once, now you’ll be smarter and do it again, for you and your kids. One day at a time.

This was me 18 months ago. The feelings fade, things get more clarity, you process the bigger picture. I hate the cliche, but time heals all wounds… it’s absolutely horrible and the words make no sense, but the days, weeks, months, years go by and somewhere in there, you heal a little. Then a little more until, you’re smiling and haven’t thought about those feelings in a long time. And then you realize you are becoming more you again as an independent person and not you as “a couple” or “married…

Do not feel guilty about your free time if you know your kid is safe, cared for and having fun. This is your time to refill your tanks. Give yourself some enjoyment. Cook yourself a nice dinner. Have a beer or ice water with lime, whatever. Get your mojo going and refuel for when you see your kid next time. You deserve it!!!

Yeah, my wife ended things, but I stayed at the house. If she wants out so bad, she can go. In my opinion, unless you’ve violated your wife’s trust, cheated or did something nefarious, you don’t need to leave unless you absolutely want to. And you’ll get a lot of advice to not give up that asset so easily. I was eventually forced to sell, but we made an extra $100k on the house by me being there for an extra 10 months in today’s market. Don’t rush. Get advice. Listen to your gut.

Thanks. I get that. But if you’re trying to build something profitable and long term I would try to wait so she has absolutely no claim. You mentioned she could have vindictive intentions and you don’t want to be in a position down the road selling your company for millions and her showing up out of nowhere. Congrats and good luck with the business regardless of what you choose.

My wife of 20 years left me within a 6 months of starting my own business, one month before the pandemic. It was service oriented, so it was basically shut down. We went through mediation, not trial, so maybe my advice would be different. I’d wait so there is nothing to consider until the paperwork is done. Just my two cents and gut.

Your location will matter. Do you know how she acquired said money? Any income or money is that spouses acquire AFTER separation in states like California is theres alone. My ex wife received a wind fall from her parents to get on her feet, which I had no entitlement to after she left me.

You do you. I was married for 20 years. Adopted a FWB after being alone for 9 months with the very clear communication that I don’t want a girlfriend or commitment beyond some consensual adult activities. Suggestions and advice are things you consider for your very specific situation. Everyone will tell you to wait a year, but the reality is some guys wait several years and some guys move on to the next woman immediately. If the house is in both names, the bank will appraise when the refi is done. I’m going through this on the other side. I wanted to buy her out (appraised for $500k in Sept) and now with the market increase the house will likely appraise for +$550k. It’s not worth me paying an extra $25k on top of the $150k in the house. I’m going to sell and get her paid and done.

It took me a while to admit I was fully accepting of the unhappiness because I was afraid of the alternative. I’ve had zero arguments with anyone since my ex left. Not sure why I was afraid of potentially being happy alone.

Trust me, it’s better. I was still fixing things for her. Brake lights out, I’ll fix it. What type of internet router, oh this one. I got sick of hearing about her setting up a nee life while trying to do that myself. Let her figure her stuff out and you figure your stuff out but will be much better for your mental health. Good luck brother.

My wife left 53 days ago after 20 years and have two late teen kids. She emptied the bank accounts and broke it off over the phone. Left the house and bills. I’ve never lived alone before. It sucks and it hurts. Lucky for me my friends and family have been overwhelmingly supportive, but that doesn’t mean I don’t cry everyday. Keep things civil and focus on your life and your feelings and your relationships with others. Nothing is going to fix this but time, self reflection and hard work through …

My wife left me on 9/4. Drained the accounts and abandoned the house. She thinks that’s our separation date. She is going to try mediation with me, but that date isn’t until 10/7. Does she still technically owe me half even though she went and got an apartment? Neither of us have filed or been served, so I’m thinking she still owes me half of everything, including the savings she took.

I'm 43 and found that my hobbies have introduced me to new folks. If you're looking to just meet people in general why don't you look into the groups or meetings in your area around your interests? What do you like to do for fun? What hobbies do you have? What would you like to learn more about? Most hobbies/interests have local groups, but you have to invest some time checking them out to see if the people and their focus fit your interest level. Went to the Maroon 5 concert with Kelly Clarkson....all the girls were screaming for Adam Levine to take his shirt off. It was non stop and quite annoying. When Kelly Clarkson came on I simply mimicked the same thing they were doing (just once and only to prove a point) and I honestly think the wheels moved a little bit when they understood the absurdity of what they were asking and doing...and no, I did not expect or really care for Kelly to remove her shirt. I am also 100% sure she didn't hear…
