for some guys, "resembling what most women want" and "making themselves generically superficially attractive" is a huge improvement. now they at least get some interaction from women. and then, they can practice the communication. it is hard to practice communication with someone who doesn't bother talking to you.

being perceptive of others isn't a mental system you can learn, it's something you have to practice As if there is a contradiction here. You learn first, practice later. Otherwise, what exactly would you practice? Of course for people who have already learned the lessons, practice is the most important part. But we shouldn't expect the same for the people who haven't learned the lessons yet. What you are saying seems to me like a privileged person who already had the lesson, and tries to discour…

I'd like to avoid both extremes here. Avoiding adversity all the time means you will never learn to deal with adversity, and at some point of life you probably will have to. But that shouldn't be an excuse for abusive behavior. So I would recommend teaching both boys and girls to deal with "less the perfect" situations. But, uhm, gradually. Not breaking people during the lesson 1. Because in real life there are both spoiled children unable to deal with any adversity, and abusive "teachers" using…

Both blind people and dyslexic people are unable to read written text fluently. What revolutionary medical conclusion would you draw from this surface similarity?

I'd say it depends on individual; if you are handled with gloves all your life, you will perceive anything else as hostility. But I'd also say that our society usually treats girls with gloves, and boys are thrown to the sea so that they learn to swim. So at the end we have most women unable to respond constructively to treatment without gloves, and most men who already gave up the hope of ever being treated with gloves. (And I believe that both of these outcomes are harmful.)

Most women hate "tough-love" and bootcamp style training. Heh, so do I, and I am a man. I am just often not given another option, so I take what is available. I actually believe that more friendly training (as long this is not an euphemism for not training) is always supperior to harsh training. It's just that sometimes the friendly training is not available, and you are only given the choice between harsh training or nothing.

That is ableist. Also, everyone needs to be taught knowledge; that's why we have schools. It's just the set of "knowledge that has to be learned" is different for different people. Today even alphabet is common knowledge, and yet we teach it at schools.

Yeah, it is also my experience that most useful "redpill" advice can be also found in other places. In retrospective I see I had all the information already available, I just was not able to read it properly and connect the pieces of the puzzle together. That's because the stuff is usually written in a hidden way, in order not to offend people. And it assumes that the reader has the necessary social skills to decode the message. But before, I simply didn't have the necessary social skills. I onl…

The lover is also a bad person, but not in the same way. First, the lover didn't have any "contract" with the husband. Second, it was not the lover who did the lying. The husband didn't have any reason to expect anything from the lover, but had a reason to expect that his wife's children during the marriage would also be his (at least if he is led to believe they are). As an analogy, imagine a situation when a wife steals $1,000,000 from her husband's money, and spends the money on vacation with…

It is a part of everyday sexism. The ironic part is that when you suggest to replace "male violence" with "violence", they will probably call you sexist. On the other hand, maybe you could just ask: "Are we also going to have a walk against violence in general?" -- not suggesting to remove "male" from this one, just that maybe, some other day, you could also have another, more general walk -- and see if it starts a discussion. Maybe not, maybe yes. I wouldn't expect too much, but even a small pr…

This is probably what one gets when they take everything that is used for male shaming, and try to claim that 90% MRA are both this and that at the same time. Thus we get ultra conservative marijuana smokers... and tomorrow probably rich powerful old men who also happen to be unemployed teenagers living in their parents' basements; gay-haters who are so misogynist that they prefer to have sex with other men; trans-haters who dress like women because they want to appropriate the noble cause of fe…

When an anonymous stranger says it on a public web page, I don't consider myself to be their friend, so... it would perhaps be more like saying "I hate you" to random people on the street. Some of them would laugh, some of them would doubt my mental health, some of them would be scared. I can't use the group who laughed as a proof that this is how they all should react. What happened to the simple "don't do to others what you wouldn't want them doing to you"? Instead of this, we have dozen excus…

one woman I knew could literally not stay in or go into an enclosed location where there was an unfamiliar adult male. This was a psychological issue based on two different assaults with violence that happened to her What if someone had a similar issue with black people? Nothing, I guess. They would be expected to solve their own problems.

In my experience with Facebook, none of the comments I reported was ever removed; regardless of the topic. So it seems possible to me that they actually are unbiased and simply don't remove any comments. Or maybe they have an algorithm that calculates the number of reports, and, say, the first 99 reports of the same comment are always ignored, and the 100-th report causes automatical removal. I wouldn't be surprised if they used something like that, because that would save them a lot of money sp…

No, they specifically wrote: The movement to punish young men for [nagging for sex] on college campuses is a policy bordering on pathology, and that policy should not be embraced merely because the genders are switched.

In Wikipedia an article can belong to multiple series. Sexism belongs to the "Feminism" series, I think there is no doubt about that, so the proper solution is to create a "Men's Rights" series if it doesn't exist, and add the article there, too.

Try "Men's Equality". Some people will hate it, too, but it will be more difficult for them to explain why. Also, you can have the meta-controversy about why equality for men is considered controversial.

What would be the reactions if a foundation decided to financially support voluntary female genital mutilation, only for adolescents and adults? I guess we would hear that it's not truly voluntary, if the culture creates a huge pressure on you. Also that providing this service to adult people makes this practice appear more legitimate, which encourages people who are doing it to small children. ("Well, if some adult people are doing it voluntarily, it can't be so wrong.")

The video connects together two separate things. It should be split in two videos, and only the first one posted here. The first part, I agree -- and this is what most comments here are about. The second part, I disagree. I want to know about my DNA and the health implications of it, even if the government believes that I am too stupid to evaluate the information correctly.

men tend to have upper body streght than women Most obviously, "tend to have" does not mean "always have". Not every man is an indestructible terminator ninja dinosaur. There are also older men, young boys, disabled men... and men can also be tired, drunk, drugged, etc. Or blackmailed.

I just don't get why the fuck they're gendered. Because no one in this society would dare to tell women how to be a "real woman". Or if they would, the list would look like: A real woman is awesome. A real woman does what she wants to do. A real woman knows she deserves everything she wants. etc. The "real man" description is essentially a female wishlist. And there is no information on what value is offered to this "real man" in exchange.

It simply means that Wikipedia wants to be an encyclopedia of all "notable" things. Liking something or hating something is irrelevant. There is a Wikipedia article about Hitler, too. Not comparing; just illustrating that the "hate group" accusation is completely irrelevant and wouldn't make a difference even if Wikipedia editors would believe it. Wikipedia has a list of policies why a topic can be deleted. One of them is "no one gives a f*ck", or as a Wikipedia editor would put it, "non-notable…

Then we should appreciate their honesty about it. I mean, assuming the society already views men like this, would you prefer a situation where (a) saying it openly is a taboo and makes you sound like a crazy conspiracy theorist, or (b) saying it openly is allowed? The chocolate allows to you speak about it legitimately. So it's good to have it. It's bad that the attitude exists, but if it already exists, it's better to be allowed to talk about it. Just imagine that you could make a chocolate abo…

What exactly are you comparing with what? A community focused solely on trans people's issues would certainly give more support to trans people than MRA community would, simply because if you focus on something, you are more focused on it. This said, I believe you would find more support in an MRA community than in those kinds of feminist communities that want to make strict lines and quotas between men and women... and who treat trans people as traitors, or are angry at them for ruining the nic…

I think the correct approach is somewhere between paranoia and obliviousness. Don't suspect everyone of the worst, but remember that the bad things exist. Don't be distrustful to all women, but notice the red flags and don't underestimate them. It would be a mistake to live all your life in fear, but it would also be a mistake to see a red flag and think it will just go away and nothing bad will happen. There is an analogy with how women should treat men. It's a mistake if a woman avoids all men…

Seems like feminism doesn't only attack men, but also those women who disagree with feminism. (Reminds me how communists said they represented the workers and peasants; but if a worker or a peasant disagreed with the communists, they got a bullet, too.)

Civilization is an evolutionary pressure (we have laws, the criminals are executed and their genes are removed from the gene pool). It is just a couple thousand years of new evolutionary pressure after millions of years of old evolutionary pressure.

Just to put it into perspective... men don't literally ignore their lives. They also try to survive. They are just more likely to accept the risk. When a man goes to a war, of course his preferred outcome is to return home alive. When a man takes a dangerous job, of course he wants to return home alive, with a big paycheck. When a man shows his courage by doing something stupid (yeah, not every example of taking risks is noble) to impress others, he also plans to survive and get his reward. The …

Why are you trying to change your friends? It is perhaps because deep in your heart you desire their validation of your ideas (and now you want to punish them for refusing to give it to you)? If they waste your time, that is a legitimate reason... but it does not require cutting off the contact completely, merely limiting the time spent with them. If they actively tried to undermine you, that would also be bad... but from your description I got an impression that it's you trying to change them a…

Learning about TRP is just like learning about anything else. At the beginning, it's all surprising. At the end, you know most of the stuff, and most of what is exciting for beginners is boring for you. At that moment it is okay to stop learning because you probably have other things to do, where you can make greater progress in given amount of time. (I mean, you will die one day, right? Perhaps it would be good strategy to frequently remind the dad of the things he did correctly in the past. With the emphasis on "I admire you for doing this", not on "too bad you don't do this anymore". Focusing on what to do is generally more useful than focusing on what not to do. The more you think about something, the more you are likely to do it, so it is better to think about the good stuff. When you raise children, it is better to remind them of what they did right (and what you as a pare…

It's unlikely they will see their dear mother for the narcissistic sociopath and monster she is. Today she has a conflict with you, but when you are away, I think it is likely that one of her next conflicts will be with them. Sooner or later; maybe a few years later. And when that conflict comes, they will understand what kind of a person she is. I won't know what their intentions are or if they will be seeking me out merely for money. This part is actually pretty easy. If they contact you, don'…

I apologize for speaking badly about your parents, especially without having enough information, but maybe they both made a lot of serious mistakes. Admitting that your parent did something wrong, is very painful. Admitting that both of your parents did something wrong, is twice as painful. Maybe even more than twice, because then there is no other parent left to idealize. Seems to me that both you and your brother are trying to avoid the double dose of pain. You already know something was wrong…

Why do broken legs exist? Why didn't evolution already filter the genes for broken legs out of the gene pool? Probably because there is no specific gene for broken legs. There are just genes to build the legs. And the legs are not perfect, so sometimes they break. There is no profound reason for that, no mystical hidden meaning. Evolution simply does not build perfect things; merely things that are good enough. The same thing is true for human brains. They are good enough for surviving, on avera…

When people disagree about definitions of the words, of course they cannot agree about sentences where those words are used. Sometimes the solution is to stop using the word for a moment, and just say what you meant by it. When a dominant man chooses to act submissively in some situation, it is completely different from a man who acts submissively because he can't act otherwise. -- 100% agree, regardless of whether "beta" is or isn't a proper label. I agree with the general idea of what you said, except that "intelligence" is not the proper word for the concept you describe. Intelligence, as defined and measured by psychometrics, is a raw ability of the brain; probably consisting of capacity of the short-term memory and processing speed. People are born with higher or lower intelligence. If someone has the bad luck to be born retarded, they can work hard all their life and still remain retarded. If someone was lucky to be born gifted, they …
