Yes, engineering is a losers profession in terms of being a man with a great social life and having access to lots of women. It's a winners profession in terms of the money that you'll make. I dress mostly normal, slightly above average for the tech world. I can't dress too nice, people in the tech world dress down and really look down on those that dress well (like they are trying to compensate for lack of IQ).
