Sure, some women aren’t good directors and some are mistreated until they give up, but right now the most famous/influential directors are people who have been making movies for a long time. Younger candidates who are being given equal opportunities simply haven’t gotten enough experience and exposure to be popular yet. That could be an issue, but sadly it’s hard to see data on stuff like that because producers will always claim that “they picked the more qualified candidate.” Which, to be fair, might be true. I know several boys that, after watching a movie filled with nonstop explosions and action, want to be a part of that.
