I'd say the same amount of kids actually look up to their step fathers or mom's long term boyfriend. It usually depends on the age you get them at and how much you talk to them. I have a lot of respect and listen to my mom's boyfriend of 3+ years.

I'm sure they would, even though "let" isn't the right word. But I'm sure the right one would not impede your life and add too it, and be a positive relationship. However, I don't know if the "right one" even exists.
