I can't speak for South America, but I've read that in Eastern Europe (especially Russia), it had to do with the huge amount of young men killed in WW2. Every girl he dated was a retail coworker who worked closely with him, so they were essentially "forced" to pay attention to him. 3	As a man, I think the men here greatly underestimate the fundamental advantages of being a man in society...... Anecdotal, I know, but an old professor of mine (who was a woman, btw) told me about a former (female) student who was able to get a DBA job at a tech company with only an Associate's degree, even though the job ad specified a Master's as the minimum qualification. The professor told the story to try and motivate me but, as a man, it completely flattened my confidence.
