I never really got that, don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like either of the two (one more than the other, though), but I never really understood how that connection could even influence someone's opinion of the company itself.

The problem is people's tendency to generalize, you may dismiss someone's opinion and not take it seriously, but if that opinion is pro-feminist, you'll most likely than not get a few "misogynist" or "sexist" insults hurled your way.
