The books were the cost of freedom. How many times over would you pay that for the freedom and peace you have now?

this is why I sacrificed over a decade of my life and happiness to get to the finish line of my youngest shipping off to college(2027...) so that I wouldn't be homeless and them destitute. I live in a HCOL area and it would have been impossible to raise them with any semblance of normalcy if I left when I should have.

Thanks. I've been at this for a decade with this horizon in mind. I have a short runway left. Gotta stay the course.

I've heard some therapist, and I can't recall who it was, might have been Sven Erlandson, who said if you want to get a man talking give him something in his hands to fiddle with and he will spill everything.

My wife CLAIMS to be a perfectionist, but honestly she half-asses and poorly executes everything she does. We have the same wife

2 Years ago my kids got to see her without her 'mask' up and on. They were both appalled.

understand that it's not a political difference, your politics is a morality decision. Clearly your morals with her don't align, and I am going to say that without being judgmental.

I could write a 10 page long tactical primer on negotiating out of alimony, Um....please! and thank you.

Therapy isn't going to help you want to be with someone you've seem to make up your mind about. The therapy is for him, and for his future relationships so he doesn't end right back up where he is today. It's ok to work on yourself and work on the divorce at the same time.

Sounds like she has anxiety/ocd. So when she starts going, tell her simply that you did not sign up for this anxiety attack, it's hers to deal with. You are not responsible for her mental loading or her inability to de-load. She is an adult and is responsible for her emotions and choices.

Paying absolutely nothing can out you into contempt. Honest question. Say you lose your job and cannot pay. Or it's too much for your budget and you can't live. What can they do? Contempt, ok, put me in jail, can I earn money while in jail? How long do you think it will take me being in jail to lose what job I have where the people receiving alimony and CS can go before they're homeless? It just becomes a game of wills at that point. If you're willing to accept what the penalty is and wait it ou…

This is a rule of life, if you feel compelled to ask the quesiton 'do I need an attorney' the answer is always yes.

My one day to be Exwife knows I hate slamming doors, and stuff. Triggers of childhood trauma. So she will slam every cabinet and door when she wants to make me uncomfortable. It's all a game. Get some noise cancelling headphones and tune it out. The payback will be a lack of a reaction.

Flip side is DV is up, as is child abuse. Laws like this kinda trap women in abusive relationships. Goes the same way for men too, as women are abusers as well.

Because the one thing a woman can never get is accountability. There are more pictures of the Loch Ness Monster than a woman being accountable for their actions, words, choices, etc. So anyone who attempts to hold them accountable is a narc because how dare they.

As someone who is probably going to be starting the process in short order, I figured out why men love their dogs, and it's because as a man, the only thing in this world that will love you unconditionally is the fucking dog. They're the best. Get the dog.

They're acting emotional(understandable) and want to assassinate your character. Brother went through it. A friend is going through it and if I end up doing this, I will go through it too.

This resonates. Sounds a lot like me. Low key, laid back person but soon after I met my wife of now 20 yrs, and 22 total, I began to change and do things and accept things being done to me that were just not right. Biding my time, waiting for end of year and then probably pulling the trigger on exit strategy.

Nice. Taking information you know nothing about from a posting history and applying it to the present day. Last posted about any of that shit months ago. A lot has happened in life. My course of action predates that person by a long long shot. Rather than answer the question as to why one should live life unhappy you choose to try to paint me as some monster. My marriage was dead let ng before I met her and as far as you know that whole thing is done and there was not thing anyway. If you can't …

OK riddle me this, why be unhappy? This guy sounds like a bit of a jackass and I'm trying not to judge, but let's unpack the 'just isn't happy' bit and why it's so bad. I'm in this sub because I'm inching closer to a divorce and the reason is generally...I'm not happy anymore. Haven't been for a while. But there's a lot to unpack behind what has made me unhappy. No she's not a cheater, not even what I would call a bad person but she will not do anything to improve our situation but the bare mini…

Gone through this with a good friend over a decade ago. Going through it now with another, who shocked me with what's going down with his wife. Never ever saw it coming. But one never knows what happens in other people's homes. We use a secure messenger app so nothing shared can be subject to discovery as it all disappears shortly. But I'm also headed this route so it's been cathartic for me to continually message someone in the same boat. It's almost as if it's given me permission to move forwa…

That's my answer. MY kids are the best. I don't see regret at all for the last 20 years due to them. What I see is a long learning process. I now know what I need to make me happy, rather than comfortable and content. So while I await starting the process and then enduring the inevitable process...I will then wait for the right person to make me happy and that I want to be with and wants to be with me, where we can enjoy each other's lives, or allow each other to have our own time and space as w…

Oh I was the one who needed to be convinced to do counseling. She asked me to go. I'll never do it again as it's a waste. Literally if there were 10 points of contention in our marriage the counselor who was a woman I might add, said 'uh you need to listen to him because he's right you can't be that way' on 8/10 of them. She made changes but old habits crept in and new ones emerged that I just cannot tolerate.

Oh boy. Also not divorced but bellying up to it. Been planning certain things for years to arrive at a point which I think is coming soon. Anyway, here's some of the ones I passed over thinking she'll change. Stop laughing. She was 25 when we met and her mother handled her checking account and paid all her bills her mother was a do no wrong saint, any comment on how she was not a good mother was met with a vicious response did not know how to cook, and relied upon take out or dining out feels th…

I've gone through the calculator for my state, and between child support and spousal support I'm looking at about $4400/mo. Not enough Vaseline to make it not hurt.

Example of growing apart: When you get together you have plans, you have goals, objectives for life, as in where you want to live, how many kids you want, what you want to do for fun, what your outlook on life is, things you like to do, things you want to do. In my case(not divorced but contemplating and probably will be) I am the type of person who believes in the kaizan philosophy of constant improvement. I am rather liberal minded. I evolve daily. I want to travel the world and explore cu…

Could it be that maybe she got sick of your antiquated, idiotic opinions of women? Because the above sounds rather idiotic to me.

How in the hell can someone else be entitled to more of YOUR retirement than you? Because it's the cost to be paid to get out of the marriage. Many of us need to find the number that our happiness is worth, and then pay it to be free to seek our happiness.

Next time you take the kids to a Dr's appointment have a private conversation about the meds, etc with the Dr. Get it all documented. The scary part about Munchausen is that they can actually intentionally make the kids sick so that they need them more. If she's just playing the 'they're sick' in her head, that's one thing...but making them sick or making them take meds they don't REQUIRE is a whole different ball game.

Sounds like typical Munchausen syndrome by proxy
