I was always able to dismantle a situation like this with humorous comebacks when it happens in front of me, i thought it was a cheap move to do it behind my back and kinda tricky to recover from. I agree, i think the wrong way would be reacting to the change of behavior of those girls and start doing more shit as attempt to recover from it.
