I'm convinced this is what happened in my relationship. Someone on her side started giving her advice. Advice on how to "stand up for yourself" and "stop being a pushover." Turns out it was also advice on how to not communicate, and how to be a manipulative monster. Now you're divorced and broke, just like her. Womp womp.

My ex cleared out an account that had the insurance money needed to repair the house after a fire. It was a marital asset, she could spend it as she chose fit, nothing I could do. If a divorce is inevitable, put the money in a bank account and tell your lawyer.

So far my wife spent more time choosing the menu items for the reception than she has in couples counseling. I think it's fixable, but it takes effort.
