I understand the resentment in this sub reddit, but just because some divorces, even most divorces end up badly, it doesn't mean they all do. Hell, even if you use the 50% divorce statistic, which is wrong, it still means 50% of the time you will continue to be married and not divorce. Just because a bad thing happened to one person doesn't mean it will happen to everyone. I do agree that we need social reform in regards to this situation however, it is incredibly sad that it happens to people.

Not just America, in the UK women are either not (or a MP doesn't want) to jail women for minor crimes. I would agree with that comment. It pisses off my wife and sister. I dunno man, life is full of pitfalls. But avoiding marriage won't necessarily fix everything. Not to mention in some states common law marriage ends up tying you the exact same way a marriage does.

Fair enough. I think a lot of the risk is overestimated. Child support -- has nothing to do with marriage. Alimony -- fair enough, problem could arise if she takes time off to raise my kids, but I would be helping her even if we weren't married, so not really a big deal in my mind. Don't apply to men. (Receiving equitale division of property if you divorce, Receiving spouseal or child support, child custody, and visitation if you divorce). This is not a benefit to men, this is a risk that men take. Wrong. A male friend of mine has custody of his children. His wife pays him child support. Natural selection has not been working on mankind of several hundred if not thousand plus years now. If you need any proof, look at people with obvious genetic disadvantages having children. I am not saying he should dismiss his parents, but I do think he needs to handle it himself if he can. He is an adult, especially if he is in college. He is at least 18-19 and potentially over 21. He should learn to not go running to his parents to solve all his problems.
