It's nerve endings, yes, and apparently makes sex more pleasurable (though how exactly one measures the difference I've no clue), but he won't be unable to reproduce, he won't have a painful time reproducing, trouble jacking off, anything like that. It's simply an aesthetic and cultural practice, that for the most part doesn't effect the male's life at all.
