Eh — one thing to consider is that research shows that men don’t become as self-conscious when shown in-shape or muscular men. The most common reaction is motivation to improve one’s own health. Not that body positivity still isn’t important for us, but there are probably less thin/chubby guys calling in to men’s health because they feel hurt, self-conscious, … by seeing other fit men.

Why “oppose traditional gender roles” instead of “support a variety of masculine expressions?” Some men are traditionally masculine and that should be supported too.

I mean - if you and others don’t fit into any of these groups doesn’t that basically put you in a straight, white guy group? Or did you just get the day off?

Lol. There it is. Your comment shall serve as example of the crazy-making. I’m gay sweetheart. But y’all’s tits and ass be all over the gym “yoga pants” and low-cuts. Do you, but stop embarrassing yourself and bullying us by thinking everyone is looking at you. The reason guys are asking for their own space isn’t because they can’t stop looking, it’s because when a/some women think a man is looking, he’s lucky if he gets away with just a scoff and eye-roll in his direction. Odd. Supposed Men’s-Rights supporters calling WS a simp, cuck, and other on-the-nose misandrist insults. Not to mention going after his wife for a condition she’s suffering thru and blaming him for her infedility. I’ve read a lot of stories on this sub alone about how difficult that situation can be, how it can making being a husband/father hard, and how the man is often blamed regardless of the situation. And here you are, doing the same shit. It’s not a good look boys. If it does anything for …

You sound like you know what you're talking about, but nope. 1996 was a long time ago and California is not the country. In 2003, race quotas were outlawed in the United States by the SCOTUS They now operate primarily as I stated above. And yes, white men benefit from AA, when they are in the minority. Here's an article from 2017 in the Washington Post lamenting the fact that white men benefit from AA. (I disagree with his feelings, but there it is). Have a good week.

Parroting uninformed talking points to justify feeling persecuted about this issue I see. If you don't trust well-tread research, I don't know what to tell you. No, it's not true for every vocation, but those are exceptions proving the rule. Again, men deal with real stuff, do some research and figure out the difference.

I can see that none of y'all know how AA works. If you're a man and you apply to a majority women school/program/job, affirmative action will work in your favor. If you're white and you apply to a historical ly black college, AA will work in your favor. Today, AA only means- if you have two candidates of EQUAL talent, chose the one that adds diversity to your organization. So no, AA does not admit "underqualified" individuals. It only breaks a tie for equally qualified individuals. So quit with …

Hmm. Well I have really been enjoying Cobra Kai at least. A lot of good, positive, and varied depictions of healthy (and unhealthy) masculinities in the show. One of the few where the tough guys aren’t just psychotic/narcissistic/antisocial (eg Breaking Bad). It seems decidedly focused on exploring manhood. There have been times when I’m surprised it could be made today. Check it out if you haven’t. It’ll get ya in the feels.

I wish more people on this sub saw the plight of black men as directly connectee their own. Regularly, I see posts and comments around here decrying attention to black men's causes, including BLM. Some of you don't understand that whats been happening to us for years is exactly what's coming your way: violent, over-sexed, assumed guilty, predators... It's all the same cloth.

Perhaps we are both stubborn. I would argue that my stubbornness is attached to way things are - while yours is attached to an ideal in your head. Good on you for wanting to change the game, but that takes a lot of work and a focused grind. (Which is, btw, a way to demonstrate value). I realized a while ago, it’s extremely difficult to get ahead in the game, while trying to deconstruct it at the same time. Usually, you have to choose one or the other.

Yours are the rants of youth or narcissism. Expecting to be adored with nothing to offer or show for it is right out of the DSMs criteria for narcissism. Children get that treatment — because they are children. Most men just don’t - like it or not. Women (while young or attractive) can wield this privilege in many more cases, but that was not your lot. You, like most everyone else, will have to earn your keep. You can spend most of your time wallowing and complaining about it — or accept the har…

Yes. Men have to earn their keep. It is what it is - sometimes it’s just best to play the game. People will start treating you with value again when you’ve proven you are valuable. It’s not fair, but it is the answer. Find a thing you like or are willing to do (that others aren’t) and master it.

Nope you're going too far. Its not about comparing privilege, its about recognizing your own in addition to the disadvantages men face. Those movements are the result of their anger, which is the result of their sadness. Many of these movements go to far, because they are started and led with the same angry, retaliatory energy that this entry is talking about. What is needed is a group / movement, focused on men, that hears their concerns, and looks for positive (=/= feminist or female approved)…

I don't know what to tell you then man. If you can't make some effort on your own part to see what's going on around and your own part in it, you're gonna be stuck in your sad, angry bubble. I've been there, blaming others, everything is happening to me... You are really hung up on this stereotype thing. I'm not interested in whataboutism or defending this truth from a political perspective. It is what's going on. And frankly, I don't understand how you expect any movement on these issues if you can't even fess up to how they make you feel / the effect they're having on your emotions. Stop protecting your egos and get to work.
/r/MensRights12/12/19 06:23 PM

Nah, you don't sound angry at all, brother. Of course anger isn't the only emotion men have, it's the only one they're allowed to show. So we process a lot of our emotions as anger, instead of the appropriate sadness, compassion, shame. The real challenge, for white men in particular, is learning to accept that they are privileged in many ways and disadvantaged in other ways. It is the complexity of their situation that causes their (what looks like) anger. Men in general have to be able to ackn…
/r/MensRights12/12/19 06:21 PM

Here’s the thing: you guys are angry - see: suicides, shootings, etc. But only because anger is the only emotion guys are left to feel. What many men really are these days is sad, but given male stereotypes (especially White male stereotypes) men contort that sadness and confusion into anger. This article is right to call it out as a phenomenon, and rather that being so reactionary, you should use it as an opportunity to explain why white men need help too.

I work at a University, and the way Title IX works: when both are drunk (on campus event or not), the first person to report the incident is considered the victim. You might have said: "There are more Men in prison of any race (even White) than there are women of all races combined." or something like that.
/r/MensRights24/02/15 09:43 PM

It is what it is. . . I just find it interesting that the largest discrepancy isn't mentioned or considered. Men's rights should include all men. So when I, as a black man, opened the chart and noticed that the incarceration rates of Black men (4000+) were astronomical when compared to those of White men's (600+), it seemed like the most notable difference had been overlooked. Privilege cuts both ways - and in this particular instance when considering sex, women receive more privilege. But when …

You are right. But that doesn't mean men aren't privileged in ways as well. I appreciate your language here, though, honestly responsibility =/= privilege. I make these comments not to stir the pot - but NO one is going to listen to a bunch of men complain about their roles in society if they think we cannot see the Full picture. I absolutely agree. Stereotypes of black masculinity tend to emphasize a so-called "Hyper-masculinity," where black men are thought to be overly-sexed/aggressive/stupid/.... As these aspects of masculinity get overblown and demonized for all men, I think that men of all races begin to experience what many black men have been experiencing for quite some time now (with regard to their masculinity/maleness).

"demasculate" ... not a word. And if you can be so easily emasculated, that's your own issue. totally agree man. I'm getting a doctorate in psych now and my specialization is male gender roles and sexuality, and I rarely ever see stories related to these things.
