The dialog and that jazz was all right, the acting was fine, it's a comedy. But the ghosts were not scary. Not that the original was terrifying, but in the new one they just lacked something. Gals instead of guys was a fresh idea and has nothing to do at all with the fact that Gozer the Gozerian, its minions, and fairly chosen destructor completely outclassed and out-charisma'd the weird butler and a bunch of shoehorned cameos.
