that's what I do when I'm out too, if I sense someone is behind me at a reasonable distance (like 10 or so feet) then I'll hold the door for them and maybe someone else if they're right behind them. the only time I dont really do this is if im behind someone and they dont hold the door for me. I just get annoyed super easily and immediately want to get whatever errand I had done at that point. But if I'm in front to a door again I'll open it widely or something, but I wouldn't hold it open.
