As a (mostly) hetero woman, can confirm looks probably don’t matter as much to us (generally speaking) as they do to most men. “Save class and character for when you want a relationship.” It is exactly this kind of attitude that turns women off. Also, people who actually have class don’t stop being classy just because they’re going for a quick hook-up. Part of what makes someone classy is that they demonstrate respect for others and decorum regardless of the situation they’re in. If you’re turning off the the classiness so you don’t waste it on a hook-up, you’re not classy - you’re a poser, and also a dbag.

I can see how those conflicting cultures (in terms of relationships and sex) could make things difficult. There are women who would much prefer an inexperienced and even awkward guy who actually respects them than a suave, smooth talker who doesn’t care about their partner. And it helps if you are willing to learn from your partner, do some reading ahead of time about sexual technique, and are willing to communicate about sex (before, during, and after). I speak from experience.
