Tyler is a manifestations of the Narrator's self-loathing and regret with a dash of wish fulfillment. A lot of people view Tyler as the real man inside wishing to be free and in some ways thats true. But Tyler is also a massive hypocrite and might even be the poster child of what is now called "toxic masculinity". | 1 | Why does society condition men to be beta males instead of alpha males?There's definitely a lot to learn from it and I think Palahniuk was more honest in his portrayal of the modern state of masculinity and the conflict it creates within a person than anyone could ask for. It's one of the few books I think actually helped shape how I view certain things about myself, for the better. I just wonder sometimes about the ratio of people reading critically and people taking it literally.
