If she is not interested in you, you can be 100% she'll mention him as soon as she can. e.g. Not always. Sometimes they just want the attention and know that once you know they're not going to go out with you, you'll probably stop wasting your time being nice to them.

Try to get to a point where you’re content enough with your life that you don’t need a girl but you would like to have a girl. That's a tough one for me to wrap my mind around. According to other peoples standards, I should be doing great. I work a shit retail job, but I make enough to never worry about paying my bills and have enough left over to buy more weed than I can smoke. (this might change if I had a GF and was spending money on dates). But I don't think I'd actually be 'satisfied' unles…

We work together but we're on different floors and hardly run into each other. Never talked about anything more than passing comments about work. Maybe I'm not her type but I think I look better than the boyfriend (worse personality tho). And it could be a rebound relationship, so maybe I could leverage that some kind of way.

That's easy, you just call him out on his shit. Ask him if you talking to the girl is making him uncomfortable. Ask him if he has feelings for the girl. Don't say it like an insult, just say it in a regular tone, and do all of this in front of her so she can watch. Odds are you'll make him so uncomfortable talking about his feelings, that he'll just leave.
