Yeah, so small error on my part here tho. Should have been 1/200 * 5 as the simplified math. Real math is 1/200 + 1/199 + 1/198 + 1/197 + 1/196 Cause really the chance of being nominated is 1 chance out of the total of person available, 5 times. This makes my analysis even more valid tho lol cause with those numbers you drop at 2.5% * 13% witch give a 0,325% chance of being nominated. So a matter of fact, women are statistically way over represented with their current numbers.

No you wouldn’t see thing even out. Man not to be rude but it don’t think you understand the math stats at work here. The chance to finish top 5 isn’t proportional at all to the % of participant. If everyone has X% chance to finish in the top 5 and your subcategory represent Y%, then your statistically chance to finish in the top 5 is X% * Y% ... witch unsurprisingly is a super small number .... Let’s says there is 200 directors (as per the wiki page) and 5 nominee. Your chance to be nominated i…

Copying my other reply That’s the error tho. It’s not about hard % ratio https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_director So this is stating that women in Hollywood represent 13% of film director. The actual stats question that should be asked is : “what are the chance that a subcategory that represent 13% of a category finishes in the top 5 (that must be equivalent to like the top 0.1%) of that category” The statistical chances off that is super small. It’s not about “oh x% women director so x% of…

The thing is that It’s about ratio not hard numbers. If only 20% of directors are women, then in total, over multiple years, women should get 20% of nominations. And one year’s number can’t be taken alone to create a trend.

That’s the thing tho, it doesn’t consistently deviates from what it should be. Same for nomination of people of different ethnic background. In proportion, it’s actually pretty equal to what it should be.

That’s just 100% not true. Wtf why would you take a kicker that can’t tackle when you can get one the can and can kick just as well. This debate is so dumb, it’s cool and all that she kicked a 50 yards but there is no way anyone is fielding a woman as a kicker.

... and that one tackled is practically assured to be a touchdown if the kicker has to do the tackle. No way they field a woman for that role.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
