It's in a very meta way. Like using improper grammar to tall about how good at grammar you are.

Thank you for this. So many people, especially right now, are bitching about how, "rabble rabble I wouldn't have voted for the guy if I'd a thought he'd a gone and done that rabble rabble bullshit bullshit bullshit". As if not liking what's happening now means they made the wrong choice. Sure, dumbasses, he's faaaaar from perfect, but have you forgotten Mitt Romney? Because things could, and WOULD, have been so much worse with him.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be illustrative of. Unless it's a complaint that men aren't allowed in women-specific tournaments? Considering there's research to support the fact that these women-specific tournaments are actually self-handicapping toward women, it's actually worth complaining about. If, however, you're trying to insinuate that traditionally or politically derived segregation of genders in anything proves something or other about genders, then that just isn't good logic.

Really? I thought the stereotype was that women do that behind your back where you can see them and hear them, but they can smile in your face. I don't think I've ever come across your stereotype.

The article mentions that, actually. Use a regular condom. This product is more about increasing protection against fluid transfers and increasing usage of birth control by providing another option.

You're being oversensitive. It's a joke about the ridiculousness of taking the title literally. It's not a very funny one, albeit, but it's not one to freak out about or misrepresent.

That's beside the point I was making, which was, simply, the term trigger warning was developed due to PTSD. Not saying your comment is or isn't worth pursuing, just that it took a leap in order to question the validity of reading trigger warnings and PTSD, and that isn't the position I was arguing for.

Hmm, not the most eloquent, are you? Please don't respond. I thought this was an interesting thread so I posted a valid comment. You chose to post an irrelevant string of expletives, with the underlying motive ostensibly that you couldn't understand me. More likely, I didn't continue the rhetoric of all women are this, or all feminist are that, so you didn't even try. You should really work on presentation if you don't always want to be the mascot for the MRA spouting negative and malicious driv…

Thanks for the response. I agree and think that if you reverse genders it would totally get flack from a lot more than feminists, and deservedly, but I see these sorts of 'jokes' all the time and I'd like to see a lot more people call them out on it. Most of the people making the jokes or laughing about them, I'd wager, have never actually thought it through. If you told them it was a joke condoning domestic violence, they'd probably dismiss you BUT, if they're the kind of person who thinks of t…

Thanks for expounding on your previous statement, I see the confusion. You took what I said too far. I never meant to state or imply that people were 'unable to imagine men being harmed, even when it's by something you know for a fact causes harm'. Of course people can imagine that. I was just saying that we use short cuts to process information and that this processing is weighed by how readily we can call instances to mind. I'd also hesitate to call anything demonstrated via hidden camera a va…

Do you honestly think that calling men 'emasculated', 'pussy-whipped', betrayers of other men, or saying that acting this way couldn't be 'of their own volition' really isn't part of the positive feedback loop that fuels this subjective value placed on masculinity? Because I do. It's really a rhetorical question, though. I don't think there's much more to talk about here without both of us repeating ourselves or willfully misrepresenting each other. So, I'll probably just leave it at that, but t…

Actually, I believe they started with PTSD trigger warnings for veterans returning from war. I may be misinformed, but your comment is unnecessarily inflammatory. (I can't think of much that's actually 'about training girls to act scared')

It's not just about being politically correct, though. Words are indicative of thought processes and beliefs. I'm sorry to disagree, but I don't think I should be asked to slow down or stop pointing out negative and destructive labels against women and men, especially in this forum.

Again, 'emasculated men' supports a very negative view that only masculine men are real men. Statements like that are the same ones that make men and boys feel like they have to sensor themselves. Men who are afraid of being seen as 'emasculated' don't generally speak out when they are being abused, and it isn't the thing or person who did the so-called 'emasculating' that keeps them from speaking out, it's the people who then put them down and call them names, like pussy-whipped.

Nice. Here's the evolution of English at work. Now this urban legend saying is being debunked and rectified by feminist scholars, while teetering on the verge of becoming a trope used by certain Men's Rights activists as ammunition against feminists instead. If you don't want to be the kind of MRA who is defined by his hatred of feminists, don't be the MRA who thinks this should be used to disparage them. This post is rated PG-13. I'm a little shocked that the professor who was mentioned in the article, the one who showed the rape scene, didn't give any sort of warning to his class. I can't think of any time in my high school or college life when a professor didn't do that automatically, can any one else? That seems like a failure on his part (unless it fit with the curriculum somehow, maybe, doubtful). Other than that, I'm very opposed to trigger warnings in classrooms. I've seen this mentioned …

Was it decidedly feminist, enough to 'highlight Feminist hypocrisy'? To me, it's coming from people with really simplistic humor, at the base of which is that husbands should be buying their wives diamond rings. That doesn't really seem in keeping with most feminist theory I've ever heard about, even the stuff I've learned in here. Unless you really believe that the joke, and those comments, have anything to do with feminism, your comment just seems to be perpetuating the 'MRA are defined as ant…

They shouldn't be banned but they definitely shouldn't be thought funny, either. Hopefully, with enough people acknowledging that this sort of joke is a serious double standard (and not acceptable on either side), less people will try to make them.

I kind of hate these sorts of 'hidden video' type things, but it's definitely worthwhile for more people to be aware of these different sorts of scenarios. I bet a lot of people will focus on the speak/no speak ratio, as if it's some sort of giant catch-all indicator of something but it actually makes a lot of sense considering the availability heuristic most people use to process things they see based on examples they can readily call to mind. Most people who see a man put something in a woman'…

I still feel like all of this is incredibly deprecatory towards both men and women. You outright state that men who post things like this betray their 'own kind'. It takes the autonomy away from men. Simply: If you aren't against what I, and 'any of us', are against, then you aren't making your own decision, you are letting women do it for you. You are betraying other men, you are 'broken dogs'.

It seems like xNOM understood really well, that's why xNOM wrote, "I said sex. Not hooking up in a social environment." A nightclub is a social environment. Women who go nightclubs won't be representative of the population. Of course some women are motivated by sex, but, generally, women are much less motivated than men (or, they have overriding factors- like fear, mistrust, or worry about a double standard).
/r/MensRights02/06/14 02:39 PM

Who says that women aren't motivated by looks? That's kind of a silly thing to say and I don't think I've ever even seen someone try to make it a thing in movies or on tv, and I've definitely never known anyone who wouldn't comment on attractiveness, or who pretended to be completely above looks (male or female).

I feel like these sorts of comments perpetuate the MRAs are misogynists stereotypes. Do you mean to? I only ask, because terms like 'pussy-whipped losers' and the implication that these men, who have pro-feminist and pro-women signs, could or would only do it because they are pushed around by women is pretty misogynistic. It's also pretty unfair to all men, because it takes away their own choice in the matter. Your posts comes across like this: I think only a women would post these sorts of sign…

Congratulations, your ridiculous comment wins my response. I only have time for one before I shut off my phone, and I'm using that time to tell you that you are very, very wrong. Really only to some men. I can't even imagine it's most men. Is it prevalent in China or India, because if so I'll change that assumption. And often it's dependent upon the religion. Now, if you want to talk about violations, lets talk about forcible baptisms, that's just as violating to some, even if the mark isn't as visible.

There is just way too much daylight between an idea and an ideology, and you've got way too many extreme analogies going on. To continue the theme of implications, however, by comparing someone to a Nazi sympathizer or follower, you kind of are "trying to pin this author to the same level".

Do you want me to be a feminist? Because I never identified as such. Not that I can recall, at least. Honestly, I actually almost liked TheRealMouseRat's post, but so so often, a good post is completely ignored in favor of notallmen comments. Of course not all men. Of course not all feminists. Of course not all anything. You aren't arguing against real statements, you are creating false ones to try and knock down.

Just to clarify: I was saying (my formatting got messed up, so I can understand if it looks confusing) that MRA understand that although around 50% of the world population is men, only a few bad apples are violent against women, so don't blame all men for those few. Are you commenting on this or something else?

I don't think that implication actually exists though. If she thought he was an "entitled pseudo rapist", I'd hope that she'd break up with him instead of sending him reading material. The only implication I choose to read into this, is that she assumes he's mature enough to read the article and discuss it with her rather than use it to base an ultimatum on.

It's really not nice to call someone "subhuman" just because they haven't been circumcised. So what if my parents didn't want to lop off a bit of me to the delight of friends and families, it doesn't make me any less human than your mutilated penis does for you.

Duh, Captain Obvious. Where's the absurd notion you speak of? The absurd notion as I see it is the entire premise of this thread, that sexual frustration is a legitimate source of anguish leading to a shooting spree. Now point me out a woman who went on a shooting spree after writing a manifesto around her sexual frustration, and someone trying to argue that it was a legitimate reason for her anguish, and I'll take back the "Captain Obvious" moniker.

The way I understand it: Often, men will interrupt a dialogue about personal experiences to say things like, "but not ALL men are like that, I'm not like that" etc. It derails discussions so that particular man can defend himself against a perceived accusation (perceived, because of course NOT ALL MEN are like that, it's generally a specific story about ONE PARTICULAR MAN who was like that). That's the issue as I see it. Most straight men aren't willing to just have sex. They want to have sex with the person they want to have sex with. Like my comment about (nearby counties of, but excluding) Vegas, hookers are legal in some places. Save your money and pay for one. Voila! Rocks off.

Of course rules are meant to moderate and guide posts, which is why moderators use them to moderate and guide posts. I didn't say anything about the banning, I explained to the poster above why his comment about the mods was wrong. Where's the relevant issue? Except with my emoticon.

I'd say that when the OP derailed the previous comment with a 'not all men' comment, he was doing the opposite of appeasement. Just because the OP talks about the extremes on both sides, doesn't mean he didn't just completely undermine the previous commenter for his own agenda.

Actually, in as much as this might be true, I think it's part of an even bigger issue widespread in our culture. Movies, for instance, always show guys ready, willing and able to have sex right away. But that's just not true. It's something girls end up learning by being around guys or by having a boyfriend, but it is something they don't inherently know on their own.

Actually, you should follow the rules here, too. "Links to other subreddits must use NP format ("np" in place of "www")."

"Feminists aren't focused only on the dead women. We are focused on the fact that a patriarchal idea caused the death of innocent people." And this should be copy/pasted all over this subreddit! Unfortunately, still to be overlooked because "Most men don't....yadda yadda...rare exception...yadda yadda....we appreciate your imput."

With our powers (and google) combined.... Misogynistic shooter was also a racist!

I think your "my The internet" is broken. Everything I've seen on the internet tells me that he killed both men and women. I've also seen lots of things about how he was a racist as well as a misogynist. Although his misogynism definitely seems to be the fuel in his manifesto, and therefore relevant and, unfortunately, very widely covered online.

Do you want to refute it because you feel defensive? I wouldn't worry about that. I doubt she sent it to you because she thinks you act entitled to sex. (Maybe she did, but if so, you should talk it out with her and learn how she actually feels, instead of soliciting advice from here.) My guess is just that she thinks this is something that more people should read. She probably also sent it to her other friends, so you should only feel defensive if you actually do feel entitled. Hope that helps!

Actually, just in case you didn't realize this, you aren't freely able to disagree anywhere. This is reddit, in every subreddit I know your comment could be removed, and you could be banned, for a vast variety of things. Even in this subreddit, there is a whole sidebar devoted to telling you what could get your comment removed, so try stick to the rules. ;)

Can you clarify? Where's the appeasement?

You're being facetious, right? You just quoted her talking about visiting a program with definite parameters like it's her ideology. I once visited a school for girls. They only taught girls. Not boys. Alright, now where does that say that I think boys shouldn't have access to their own education? It doesn't, but, just to clarify, I am being facetious.

Woah, buddy. Perhaps you should keep your day job, because you are no good at standup. These sorts of one liners definitely bring down the entire subreddit.

It's not childish, it's actually spelled out in the sidebar. Different subreddits have different rules. It's clear that you are very against feminists, but you shouldn't be against mods doing their job. It's kind of childish. ;) There is a subreddit devoted to asking feminists questions /r/askfeminists

Um, only if statistics, or personal experience, weren't a thing. It doesn't make any sense to say that the strongest man in the world is as vulnerable and susceptible to harm as a person you've never met. It kind of makes it seem like you are simply trying to undermine the poster's valid position unnecessarily.

I'm going to go ahead and say that shaming someone you love is never the way to go. Just in case it wasn't obvious.

Should I wait for the rim shot? Actually, your one liners are pretty witty, if unfounded.

That argument makes sense, though. Planned Parenthoods are often times the best resource women have for affordable and comprehensive medical care (and, as I've said, for men too). If you want to promote that same healthcare for men (just as much as women want to promote it for men and women), you should be supporting these arguments and supporting the funding for PP. I'm glad you weren't vilifying them, though, it's just that your comment comes across as slightly mocking. I don't want men to thi…

This is interesting. I haven't thought about this before, so thanks for the perspective. It's not just about blaming boys, as I see it, it's also teaching them that they have no control. Distractions happen, obviously, but it's totally undermining to tell a boy that he can't control himself and it's especially ridiculous to tell him he can't control himself around girls. These sorts of things are definitely behind victim blaming and rape culture today. Very good discussion.

Wait, men are allowed to go to planned parenthoods. Why would you try to vilify an organization that promotes mens rights? http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/men-4285.htm

If that's true, they aren't doing a very good job. I can point you to a very poorly written and pathetically delusional manifeso if you disagree.

Just for context: This was said during a speech about domestic violence in El Salvador in 1998. She also goes on to talk about how in prisons in the US, the vast majority of prisoners are MEN who are the victims of domestic violence. Hillary Clinton supports Mens Rights :)

It's very simply meant to mirror the #notallmen commentaries. Of course not all men rape, put down, hate, kill, etc. women, that is obvious. What isn't as obvious is the fact that practically ALL women have to worry about the ONE man who might. It absolutely isn't about how ALL men rape or ALL men cause women to worry when crossing a dark alley. Because it only takes one to make someone afraid.

I can do all those things, and more, without fear because I live in an awesome country. It's too bad that America can't get their shit together.

No, we are apparently discussing how completely you fail to grasp your own stupidity. None of your last post has anything to with your own initial argument. Practically nothing you have said has, either. We are not discussing history, we are not discussing anything.

You cannot base an argument on something that isn't proven. I would probably have taken less offense if you had said, 'because the bible says so', because at least then you wouldn't be pretending to know. I don't care if you believe they existed, it's a fun myth, who wouldn't want to? I blame you for using it to base your argument that women are more aggressive. It's not that farfetched for me to believe that you use fantasy to support the reality you choose to see. That is my opinion.

Oh please, how many female body builders cut off a breast to better use a longbow? That is not what you were referring to. Not to mention, using a term doesn't make the myths real. If I called you quixotic, and we know you exist, would that mean Don Quixote actually fought giants?
/r/MensRights29/01/13 08:34 PM

Yeah, could you quote it for me, because I just don't see it. This is the quote we are referring to, correct? "The history of war is primarily male-based because, throughout history, men have been the designated fighters. It's not that they wanted to. It's that people told them to. It was the social and cultural norm. They were expected to drop everything and fight, while women were expected to stay home and take care of the land and children until he got back. That doesn't mean that women are n…

Ah, yes, but the women they believe actually existed had two breasts, and fought alongside men. You are a fool for believing Heterodus' version of events is what they are referring to in Classical antiquity. Tell me, how does the sun come up each day? Apollo on a chariot? The Greeks wrote of that event too, so all of it must be real, right? http://www.arthistory.sbc.edu/imageswomen/papers/snideramazons/fact_fiction.html "The burial of a man and infant with the woman instead give evidence of a cu…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazons Perhaps adding the 'ians' was a bad idea. I thought it would make it easier to differentiate between the women of Greek myth and people from the Amazon. I believe both your interpretation and mine are correct: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Amazonian

I will never believe anything you ever reference ever again, because the women who 'remove a breast to better use long bows' are fucking mythological! Are you sure that whatever you saw on the history channel wasn't actually a Wonder Woman episode. She was an Amazon too, you know!
/r/MensRights29/01/13 09:37 AM

Um. No, 'she' blatantly suggests that society has generally forced gender roles. Men to war, women to home. No where is it even implied that "wars would not happen because that's not what women do." What I read, was that women aren't expected to be violent, because society has always forced them into a role of being less violent, not that they actually are.

Except, of course, when strength has nearly nothing to do with modern warfare.

Totally agree. Ancient Greeks even portrayed Amazonians as fearsome women warriors who only gave a shit about men enough to procreate, then they just tossed them back like so much refuse. If you gotta designate one, it's definitely men. Good spot!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
