We aren't a poor country - we are incredibly rich, as a nation, in natural resources. We could've had this wealth given over to the betterment of our country. It's just that billions upon billions before went into oligarchs' coffers, and oligarchs fused into one with the state. It is forced poverty. Russia had one wave of mobilization in 2022, taking 300,000-450,000 men, and even then, it was slow and deliberately lax enough, so that people who didn't want to be conscripted could run away or hide. Since then, Russia relies on volunteers, offering a metric fuckton of money upfront and more monthly salaries than most people earn per year.
