I thought that the author was pretty obviously not receptive to the movement, but was pretty spot on with how stupid protests can get.

This is excellent advice.

Just popping in to say that I genuinely appreciate that. As a shift leader, I have always tried to remove gender from the equasion, but am often met with 'ew, that's a man's job', ect. Working in a restaurant, there aren't that many elements of 'women's work' but god damn if almost every female employee wants me or some other guy to lift something heavy or do the dirty work. I remind them that they agreed in their contract that they could perform these tasks and lift this much. Of course, I'll o…

I hear ya. I have Bi-Polar Disorder though. It seems he was dissing people afflicted by both disorders. It was insulting, ignorant and he needed to be checked. However, I appreciate the information!

I have BPD. I am a functioning person. You have no idea what you are talking about. Fuck you.

It's applicable to more than that scenario. Ever seen a child cry when they can't get their way? It's trained out of boys, but girls can keep using it. Crying can be a defense mechanism, one that works more for women than men, and more for white women than otherwise. How dare you make her cry? I think the phrase references one's propensity to cease hostility once the white girl cries. Plus I've never witnessed a woman of color crying defensively. Just a thought.

Why does all equality work HAVE to go through feminism?

In the Puget Sound region of Washington, women make moves on men, or make it abundantly clear that men can make a move. Otherwise, no move is made out of respect. Guys go for coffee and do the whole friends first bit, and wait for the signal that it's okay to progress. We're not pushy.

I had a friend who would post some of the more misogynistic or just plain stupid OKCupid messages on FB. It was really exploitative.

As a male from the I-5 corridor, I share the 'reluctant to make a move' cultural trope. My analysis, colored by my personal perspective, is that males in this region of Washington are afraid to offend or attempt to increase the level of a relationships intimacy w/o clear signs that the other person is already wanting to do so. I had a crash and burn with a woman who moved from North Dakota to my town, Olympia, due to this. She expected men to pursue her, take initiative and do all the work to wi…

Honestly, it is impossible to avoid touching each other on those trains. Best you can do is grab the hand rails and stare off into space. Or hold your bag.

This case has been an interesting one for the reasons you stated. I am inclined to believe that this has been a case of sexual assault. However, it seems to me that we cannot pass judgement without Danny Brown's testimony, which he has not given as far as I can tell. As such, it seems pointless and perhaps wrong to continue speculation, even if this outlier case of 'sexual assault' is an excellent talking point for gender egalitarians everywhere.

True, but that does not invalidate my previous arguments. He may have had the control of the stage, but the fall out could have been bad. I have no idea what actually occurred, but I don't know why Kitty Pryde would go out of her way to write such an article if there weren't some element of truth to her perspective. There are much better ways of promoting one's self. I'd personally lean towards coercion, based on what I know, which is essentially nothing. :p

This was a spur of the moment, on stage, female on male attempt at oral sex. Assuming DB was coerced into consent, here are my speculations as to why: hetero normative culture expects males to welcome all female sexual activity. An extreme example would be female teacher/male student affairs. Wouldn't you agree they are framed differently than their counterparts? He's also a popular Hip Hop (a commonly hetero normative culture) artist, whose lyrics are explicitly sexual, which adds pressure to c…

While I think this is an insightful article, the tone bothers me. I (straightwhitemale) do struggle with these things, but I don't feel 'owed'. I feel like these were the things I was taught to aspire to be, but all my cultural conditioning now feels like a lie. My body doesn't cope with it as well as my brain does. This article just casts males as unfortunate, spoiled brats.

Unfortunately, in my experience the case has been that while the argument that working on women's equality first (because they are the more disadvantaged gender) will solve the male problems as well, it is not coming soon enough. Men's Rights is different from Feminism in the sense that it is advocating primarily for male issues. There are huge gaps between the work Feminism is doing and what they say they are doing for men as well. From my understanding, there are certain groups that legislate …

Some other possibilities: The author isn't familiar with what the MRM really is about. It was a rushed article to put a reaction to the death out on the internet to show they 'care' and give an opinion. The brain has an amazing ability to rationalize things so that you are not the bad guy. It's a biological thing.

I get your point. All I was meaning to point out was that both sides care about this issue.

I had just said that I can't argue with you on this...I'd say it's because people in positions of power don't want to give it up. It's much easier to get funding for programs when one gender is way more abused than the other ones.

got banned for that one, and I called myself a feminist at the time. They just didn't like my opinion...

Ok, I can sympathize with that. Consider my take on it then: I've said to reddit feminists that many of their complaints regarding the MRM may stem from the fact that we have all grown up in a gender role limiting society, and that certain behaviors and hangups regarding the other gender's movement could stem, in part, from developmental learning regarding the other genders. I think that feminists fall under that statement as well. They are still unpacking their own shit, and have their own bias…

I don't have any articles or the like handy. I can say that most of the feminists I personally know do not hold the opinion that female violence =/= male violence in terms of severity. Sorry I can't be more persuasive. Consider it a personal opinion, if you like.

I'm saying that the concept cannot exist without the other being a possibility. My intention is to point out that both movements are interested in this scenario, they both don't like it, and both have different ways of interpreting it, but the goals are similar. The constant antagonism and defamation isn't helping anything. Edit: And if we're insisting on downvoting for opinion here, then...

I know this isn't what many want to hear on this sub, but feminist theory can also explain what happened. You can't have misandry without misogyny existing, right? The misandry in your scenario is that the cops expect you, and men, to 'man up', but the misogyny is that they didn't take the female threats of violence seriously, either. Haha, and I've been banned from /r/Feminism and /r/AskFeminists by /u/demmian. It makes no sense...

That's the one! It's not surprising that Jezebel and the like are sensationalizing the issue, whereas the majority, if not all of the dialogue within that thread agree that it is discriminatory and the guy should sue.

I think the guy suing was in /r/feminism yesterday asking opinions. The general opinion was that he should sue, ironically. I'll see if I can find it.

But wait a second, this guy is totally stereotyping when he says that women (all is implied) are incapable of being nothing but victims and make everything about them. There are trends to those effects, but he's being so totalitarian in his language that I was a little weirded out.

That's simplistic thinking. It's more like an artificial social structure was organically created which happened to place men at the head of the household, citing that women must be protected, and that spiraled majestically into the shitpile it is today, hurting all of us. Feminism is supposedly all encompassing, equalizing human rights, and academic feminism deals with all genders, but its easy to call yourself a feminist or mra and talk out your ass. Those people tend to be polarizing in their…

There are a lot more reasonable feminists out there. Been talking with many about [Feminist Theory] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminist_theory) lately and have met a lot of people who've taken upper level classes about it and I'm sure would get along with you just fine. That subreddit represents a small, particularly loud and cruel bunch of feminists, sort of Feminist terrier that likes to go for your calves. It's stupid and unproductive.

I am personally not anti-feminist, and think that feminism and masculism or MRAs can work symbiotically for a more equal world. I too have fundamental disagreements with feminist ideology, and how it paints the image of men, but think that most of its proponents are relatively sane people. This is the internet, after all. As such, I call myself a masculinist and "feminist" ally.
