I’m going to assume you’re referring to the fatherhood stuff. To answer your original question, all the time. My kids are grown and, even now, they do shit that I don’t understand and worry me to death about how I can help. You need to relax with the idea you can’t do this single father routine. The key is to recognize you will NEVER have all the answers. Your “grade” as a father will be decided by how supportive you are of your children and how much love you give them. If you’re lucky, you get …

This. The difference between 50/50 split with alimony for years to come and no incentive to remarry OR this settlement is a huge win for the guy. Especially for as young as the BIL is. Happiness has a price and he just paid it, kudos to the BIL.

I agree with your thought process. This isn’t a positive step for your marriage. This feels like she has someone else identified and she’s looking to test the waters with the “other guy”. In other words, there’s something else driving this separation idea. Might want to get your finances in order, contact an attorney in private for advice, and figure out who the other person is. Also, if she wants to separate, tell her she’s free to leave but you’re staying in the home. Why do you need to leave …

It sounds like you’re getting a divorce because it’s the right decision for the two of you. Where I’m struggling is why you feel the need to essentially put on a show for the coworkers? You’re going to court with your wife next week, right? Wouldn’t that come across as strange to everyone? Maybe I’m missing something but, most likely, the gossip is out there already. Some, if not all, of her coworkers are aware she’s been having an affair. I suspect more than a few probably feel sorry for you an…

Lawyer up, my friend. She doesn’t respect you and she’s taking advantage of the fact that you think she’s still the woman you married. She’s not. You’re too young for this shit, move on and live your best life!

One thing to ask yourself, do the moments the marriage is crumbling line up with times she’s on her phone more or more distant? I’m developing a theory that there are fights and issues that occur deliberately in marriages to provide the “cover” for the cheating party to do what they want with a little less guilt. I wouldn’t be surprised if this has happened in your marriage but, if it has, it only supports what you already know. She’s going to regret this idea that the grass is greener somewhere…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
