But that would make me useless as a woman wouldn't it?

Due to his obligations with child support and providing for his other 2 children, it has been difficult to advance or look for better opportunities. He is hoping to get into a plumbing apprenticeship in the next year or so though

I'm not good at that at all. I had to learn to fend for myself early on and it has always been a struggle giving up that control and relying on other people

He works full time but in unskilled labor. I have a bachelor's degree and more professional experience

He pays child support for his oldest child so that lowers his earnings. I receive va disability for mental health issues stemming from my military service

I do have some passive income that supplements my earned income, so since I'm not working for that money I guess it's like we each pay 1/3 and my other income covers the rest?

So you think I'm expecting him to pay too much?

I have a very rich social life and I am passionate about my job in elder care. I work in an activities department and am working toward certs in memory care. Being home is uncomfortable to me, but then the idea of home always has been. Maybe I'm not cut out for being part of a real family?

I do struggle with letting others struggle. I know I need to let people be uncomfortable sometimes to grow instead of enabling and doing things for them. I will take this into consideration more. Thanks!

Also the lifestyle being beyond one income is what is necessary to provide adequate space in the home for his children as well as have some money left over for emergencies and to fund his hobbies and passions. Luckily mine are quite inexpensive. I enjoy things like hiking and going to museums. I did not grow up well off and have simple taste

Thanks very much for your input! I definitely do need to work on my sense of gratitude. I didn't mean for the comment about my mental health to seem like a stab at him. I understand it takes a lot to love and support someone with mental illness, so I was trying to say that I feel compelled to work on myself more and make things better to show that I appreciate and understand that commitment and sacrifice

He is only verbally aggressive because he gets so defensive. I never feel unsafe, just a little emotionally defeated

Thanks for the input! I'm trying to get into yoga and sewing. My lifestyle is quite simple and inexpensive. His hobbies tend to be more on the expensive side. He enjoys tinkering with mechanical things and building models and such

That could help with my sense of burn out, but how do I prevent feeling resentful or like he is lazy?

I have brought him my concerns about feeling overwhelmed, but I am usually met with either empty promises or aggression because he feels personally attacked

I haven't read any of those books. The benefits are not there enough for him I feel and that's why I want to work on myself. I have bipolar disorder so finding someone who can put up with me trying to manage my mental health isn't something I should take lightly

Thanks for your reply! I am not interested in having kids of my own for medical reasons, and I don't mind working. I just know that choosing to get married and be a wife and he'll raise his children comes with certain expectations that I feel I'm not living up to and I fear that my independent attitude is damaging to the way I see him and my role

That's why I'm struggling. I know things in life aren't fair, but sometimes it just feels like I'm drowning when he is on his phone when he gets home and I'm taking care of everything. I know he needs time to decompress, but after being reliant on myself so long, I'm finding it hard to look past my own selfishness sometimes

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
