More girls than guys. In my opinion, I feel like the unmarried ones have more time on their hands (no kids, not that many household chores). I feel like domestic life breeds friends that you choose because of necessity, and not always by choice. I'm still poking at this problem myself.

Because he can control her by default since he controls who gets to live in his house. This would not be the case if she had a place she could go to if things got very messy.

I find myself on the other side of the fence with this. Though married, I get along really well with my single friends and not all that genially with my married ones. This was not the case when I was single. Maybe it might just be me, I'm not sure.

Eh, as long as you don't give medical advice you'll be fine. There's this Indian myth that doctors know everything, although they really don't. I'd be more afraid of an IPS officer or an army guy rather than a doc because those guys have to be all round knowledge wizards. I'm sure it will go just fine. If you knit or sew keep something in your hand to ward off the anxiety, or just have a cup of tea nearby. Sometimes it helps to just have your hands busy to ward off anxiety.

Has he mentioned to you whether his parents are very traditional? Folks in metropolitan places like Delhi/Mumbai aren't as bad these days. I think safe topics would include your hobbies, food and how covid has been for them and you. Don't talk too much your boyfriend (I'm assuming he'll be on the call, too?) Topics to avoid as usual would be religion, caste, politics...unless they explicitly ask about this, don't bring them up. Awkward silences might happen as with any first conversation, but it…

Hey, I'm Indian, too. Which city are you from? When it comes to meeting parents, don't overthink the situation. Like mentioned, Indian mothers are super overprotective of their sons and have trouble letting go, but if his dad is alright, I think she'll pull through. Be patient and listen a lot. I know what Indian parents can be like so be as respectful as possible. If it's a video call, make sure you have enough light so they can see your face well, and ensure that there isn't anything messy beh…

Agreed. I'm most worried about the living situation.

I have thoughts on this. It's a complex situation. I am not against equally sharing financial burdens when dating, but there's definitely a slant here in earning capabilities. You're a student, so you wouldn't be able to pay your way as he does, or at least to the extent that he does. I think you're going to have to sit him down and tell him that, or at least have an understanding conversation about how you two will share finances that would be practical for you. I also think it's a good idea to…

I think I agree with you here. A red pill approach to relationships does strike me as amoral and practical. I think a large part of the red pill group is now comprised of MGTOW men as well, which is what gives it a bad reputation. The oG philosophy is quite solid, though.

Absolutely agree! I'm a bit of a fishwife myself in that sense. Women who work or even coexist in a high stakes environment with men have to be rough and tumble or they wouldn't make it. I remember growing up riding the public transport in India, being packed into a bus and not knowing who is touching/groping whom. You had to be quick on your feet and very rough since we were dealing with men who would happily take advantage of soft-spoken, gentle girls. Environment and lifestyle plays an enormo…

You do you, sister. I am absolutely in agreement in embracing who you are. There is nothing wrong with you, it's just that there is a difference between you and them and they couldn't comprehend that. So it's not your fault. I think you need to look for kindred spirits, women with similarities to yourself that you can get along well with.

I'm going to be honest here, because this is a topic that I feel strongly about as well, although perhaps not in the same exact way. First off, I should say that the way those girls treated you was wrong, no question about it. There might be some nuance there, though, which I'll come to. I feel like the word femininity gets tossed around a lot these days. What do we mean by it? Is it just the frilly dresses and the traditional gender roles? Sewing and makeup and mothering? Can it have a darker s…

I have been in a conflicted place over the last few months. On one hand, I have managed the move from Canada to the US (originally from India) across the closed border to be with my now husband;, have got married finally; and don't have the stress of having to work (since we have only just applied for my documentation and are still in the process). On the other hand, I am doing my best to cope with the pandemic keeping me from seeing my family back in India (over a year now); introducing my new …

Most Jane Austen adaptations, my favourite being the 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini series. Austen's heroines are feminine but never boring, and assertive in their own right.

I like these kind of questions because they bring a good amount of self awareness to relationships and help lay down a foundation. I think for me it would probably be an open marriage as well, or a threesome. This following one is not common, but: highly stressful careers. I think marriages crumble easily if you're hyper successful (such as a becoming a CEO of a global company or (because we have seen it repetitively) a very prolific medical specialist or even a politician. I'm sure there are ex…
