Why is it strange? They're curious, and the human body is a trove of interesting variations. I'm not saying kids should touch whatever they want, there are limits, but stretchmarks, for example, are really interesting, and often located in pretty innocuous areas. It's an entirely different texture than the surrounding skin and an example of how the body deals with extreme changes. I find them fascinating and play with my partner's any time he'll let me. I can't imagine a curious child not wantin…

I would think in the ideal case, the party receiving alimony would be continuing the marital duty of primary caregiver to the child(ren) of the couple. But that's child support, not alimony.

Good on you for examining your own views. I'm a woman with a Physics degree and an Education degree who teaches middle school Math. I've seen men leave teaching due to the threat of accusations of inappropriate conduct by a student who disliked them. Some (I really hope most) male teachers never experience it, but it is a real problem for those who encounter it. I don't think there's an analogous situation for women in STEM. It's in terms of interest and socialization where I see similarities. W…

Keep in mind that your definition/view of each movement may be very different than the view of others here. This sub alone is now a large community, and therefore has a great deal of variety in how we define both feminism and men's rights activism. It is my personal opinion that the more moderate views of both "sides" are fundamentally about equality. One of my close friends identifies strongly as a feminist, while I saw myself as an MRA long before I had an acronym for it. As it happens, he's m…

While the point is certainly debatable, I would say yes. The lecture component is certainly not a revolutionary use of technology other that its wider possible audience. The much more advanced part of Khan Academy is the integrated practice problems and the extensive data which it can provide. I used to bring old tests and assignments to meetings where we were discussing a student's issues with Math. Now, for students who are on KA and have added me as a Coach, I bring my tablet with their KA st…

That video was likely overseen and created by only a couple of people within the organization. Providing information and rational arguments in a calm and polite way can sometimes start to change people's minds. It is also possible that the message may reach someone other than those who made and posted that video who may have different knowledge and views. You can't know if change is possible unless you attempt it in a constructive manner.

If you want to contact them, you could look to this thread and similar previous threads for evidence and rational arguments to present against any points you think they may have misrepresented or any biases you noticed. u/pancakedpeon's point about encouraging a broader perspective is imho a great section to include. Draft a message, run it by the community here if you want some other opinions, and send your message to them. Encourage others to do the same if they feel the same way. I couldn't f…

That sounds great. Honestly I didn't watch the whole video and therefore don't have an opinion on whether or not it should be removed, I just wanted to offer some constructive advice on effectively encouraging change when a person sees a need for it.

Khan Academy is not perfect, but it is a very important part of the evolution of modern education. If you have issues with this video (or series of videos if that is the case, I haven't checked), please voice that to them clearly and politely. They have retracted and redone videos before. Encouraging change is much more effective when rational well-supported comments are directed at those who can make changes rather than throwing up your hands and walking away to complain elsewhere.

Not all of us. Careful with generalizations, please.

At my school we have listings for "Parent 1" and "Parent 2". Parents generally write in the mother for "Parent 1" even when it's better to call Dad, so we have to waste time figuring that out. There are a few families where I know to contact Dad first because of experience with older siblings, but new teachers wont see that in the system. It might be worth seeing if your school has a similar system and if you can be changed to "Parent 1" to make contact order more explicit for those not in the k…

Different areas (countries) have different schedules. My last teaching day is the 26th, report cards on the 28th.

I post infrequently, so most interactions I've had on this topic have been face to face. I've alsi been an MRA since long before I had an acronym for it. I've always been annoyed that as a middle-class presumably straight white female with a background in physical sciences, I constantly have the doors of oportunities flung open for me while my male counterparts must continually knock. I want to get jobs, etc, because I'm smart and hard working, not because my gonads are inside. When I bring up t…

Okay, looking at the other comments, it seems like you have some time to try to work it out, and want to. I agree with some of the others that you should be prepared to get out of a bad situation, but there may be a few more things to try if you want. First, know your own finances backward and forward. Sign up for something like Mint.com (there may be better services, but that's the one I know and use) and get 100% familiar with your own finances, budgets, and goals. It may take a couple months …

Is she refusing to talk about it, or have you not brought it up yet? Are you cohabitating?

Teacher here. I recently calculated the number of hours I work throughout the 10 months of the school year. Spreading those out over "typical" 40 hour weeks, I currently work 12.4 months a year. Those summers are when we regain our sanity and see our families. There isn't time for that Septermber to June.

If a response from a sister is acceptable, it can, as mentioned earlier, depend on your support structure of friends and family and if they know you need/want the support. I have a close friend who was cheated on by his long-time S/O and went through a nasty breakup. We have a close-knit group of friends and know him to be very passionate and feel both positive and negative emotions strongly. We all reached out to him in one way or another over the course of a few weeks, whether taking him out f…
