Yup. The Duluth model. Created by a Minessotan feminist, it's "based in feminist theory in that 'domestic violence is the result of patriarchal ideology in which men are encouraged and expected to control their partners.'" What a load of crock. Being an abusive asshole isn't limited to gender by any means. And this is adopted by most police precincts, I believe.

I go to an expensive school too, and they're full of this patriarchy crap. Also psychology and the other soft sciences, they're full of it more than the rest (hard sciences just want to make stuff and study, some of the humanities just want to study art and literature and be left alone, goddamnit). There's your problem.

Yeah, and at the end of the day that's all it would be. But folks aren't going to use a funnel to pee standing up, probably b/c it'd still be hard to aim. It'd have to be deformed a bit.

See, that's the thing. All the manufacturing equipment at my uni is free for students to use. I'd literally be only paying in time invested. Could be handy if I want to make some cash for the next two years before I graduate.

Depends on the state's recording laws. Some states only require that /u/ailurus1 knows about it (single-person knowledge), others require consent from all recorded parties, and others just need all parties to be informed. I'm no lawyer, I just know it's single-person in my state.

I don't see how that's rape, either...unless I'm missing some details. To be frank, I think you're desperately trying to get me to admit that circumcision and rape are the same thing, which they aren't. And I won't, because they're not the same thing. Fair enough. It is an American thing, and with the exception of one visit to Niagara falls, I've never been outside my own country. So all Christians I've encountered are American, and part of that culture. It is ridiculous, though.

Well...despite not being a rite (as in ceremony, not right as in something guranteed via law), there are still religious connotations and reasoning surrounding circumcision. I wouldn't call FGM rape either, since it's safe to assume the person doing the cutting doesn't derive pleasure (sexual or sadistic) from it, which rape would. Also, it's not actually a kind of intercourse. But yes, I think both are serious sexual assaults and should be illegal to perform on babies and children.

Well, dictionary definition for starters: Rape: Unlawful or non-consensual sexual intercourse. Circumcision: the act of removing the prepuce as a religious rite Circumcision doesn't involve sexual intercourse, so I wouldn't define it as rape. However, both could definitely considered a type of sexual assault, of which there are many.

Ugh. Figures. I love my parents, but I'm a little disgusted that they did that to me. I didn't know about the lack of theological justification for circumcision. And now I have an argument against "it's what we've always done" too. Thank you!

Sorry, I misused the term. My parents' church is pretty relaxed on a lot of traditions, but I'm pretty sure everybody there thinks young men should be circumcised. Most other Christians I've spoken to (In northern virginia, for the most part) agree when pressed. I hate it. It feels like a violation of my body without my consent (that makes it sound like rape, which it is not. I'm not comparing the two at all) or knowledge. I actually really hate it. I don't know what it'd be like to have a foreskin, but I sure wish my parents hadn't. We're not particularly orthodox and I'm not religious at all, and the probable desensitization bothers me.
