I can't imagine why it wouldn't be a help. Especially if there is no other records (police or employment), and two parents going through a divorce. I also can't fathom why a judge would deny someone visitation/joint custody unless there was some really good evidence against them. Hearsay "he did this" should never be enough to stop a parent for being involved in their child's life.

Agreed. Based on my experience with my kids' mom totally out of the picture, I applaud any parent who wants to participate in their kids' lives. No one is perfect, but they should be allowed to be part of their kids' lives, barring obvious restrictions due to abuse or criminal activity.

We don't know either so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, but yeah, it should have all come out in court. The real issue is that whether he is or is not what he says, may not even have an impact. There are far too many courts that simply side with the mother by default when there isn't any evidence that she's unfit and no matter how great the dad is. I was lucky. My ex just walked and I automatically got custody because she didn't even show up.

Doesn't mean you're a bad one either. An honorable discharge and good conduct awards speak to character. Add that it's in a combat environment and it holds even more weight. At least as much weight as any employment or police record and they definitely factor into custoy.

I don't think he's saying that. Military service, combat service, honorable discharge and good conduct, should absolutely count in a custody hearing. It's an official record that even in a very adverse environment, this person conducted themselves according the UCMJ meeting a standard high enough to receive a commendation for it. I think the point in the article is more about those encounters that were consensual, but just bad ideas. There are some feminists that would claim that even though consent was given at the time, because the woman regretted the decision or had felt obligated (through no action of the male partner) to have sex, it's rape. I thought the big uproar was that colleges were not treating accustations of sexual assault seriously enough? Now this person is saying they should be internalized and dealt with only on campuses? Sounds like the worst idea ever and it wouldn't benefit anyone. You'd get completely different standards for justice at each and every different college. That's great, but I think there's something to be said for more fundamental education. Why did kids succeed in earlier generations with less money being thrown at schools? The basics. My kids no longer have to memorize the multiplication tables in Math, which I think is a disservice to the kids. Maybe it's just because people in general don't like to be burdened with all the crappy baggage some of these ists and isms carry with them. I'm totally down with equality, for example, and if a woman is doing the exact same job with the same level of experience and qualifications as a man, she should get paid the same and vice versa.
