Agreed, this isn't evidence of a feminism culture anymore than it's evidence of a rape culture. These anecdotal stories are not evidence of inequality, but rather specific circumstances.

Yeah, that was just an example of the biological changes trauma produces, for those who relegate psychiatric illness to "weakness." Someone getting stressed out is vastly different than systematic emotional abuse from the motivation of the abuser to the effects he or she produces. Emotional abuse is always present with phsycial abuse, because the person has to be controlled into staying in that situation. All abuse carries negative psychological effects, which has been well studied and in childr…

It sounds like you don't agree emotional abuse exists because you don't understand how it works. Emotional abuse exists and works and there is plenty of scientific backing for this. A few examples are long term blood pressure changes after trauma, and structural changes to the brain after PTSD. I could go into the resulting psychiatric issues, but that should all be familiar. Additionally, anyone who has experienced trauma is at an increased risk, by quite a bit, for cancer, obesity, and autoimm…

I think it's really not ok that men are not encouraged to have opinions about the experience of women. Part of progressing is learning how to talk to eachother and listening to other experiences. Other people, especially those you are close to, can have valuable insight regardless of gender. Part of strength is listening to things that make you uncomfortable.

Ok so I think you should read the case a little more in depth. The guy had a history of suicide attempts and mental health issues. She urged him over and over, the most important person to him, to commit suicide, and I quote, "She admits in ... texts that she did nothing: She did not call the police or Mr. Roy's family" after hearing his last breaths during a phone call..." I'm not really sure how much clearer this can possibly be. She told him to commit suicide, and did nothing as he did it. To…

I think this is a really great point, thank you for taking the time to write it! So I think the difference here is establishing operations. The definition of establishing operations is it's easier to get someone motivated to do something for food if they are hungry, as an example. It's probably going to be a lot harder to get someone to kill or rape someone else than what abuse entails, which is more insidious. It's easier to play off someone's low self esteem than convince them to rape someone,…

Ok, so you obviously didn't read the long and dedicated reply I wrote to you below. That or you fundamentally did not understand it, so let me put all of it more plainly and try to use examples. So let's talk about training animals, going back to BF Skinner and the reason behaviorism exists. You can train animals, and humans, to do what you want if you are sadistic (fucked up) enough. An example, animals can be trained to sniff bombs and even walk off dangerous heights. I'm going to talk about t…

I have to be this asshole, but you are butchering the use of the word nuance if you are using it to gloss over offensive terms. Nuance refers to suble shades, not incorrect word usage.

Ehhh, I'm going to take the middle ground on this one. I think there's something to be said for learning how to stand up for yourself and leave that type of relationship, but the mechanisms of abuse make this quite difficult. I also agree that once you are out of that kind of relationship it's important to reconcile where you betrayed yourself, and what patterns led you there. That being said, you can't rationalize yourself out of being human, including the ways that social relationships effect …

I whole heartedly agree, if you can't develop a thick skin as a female gamer, that's your problem. Also if you don't want people to know you are a female, maybe consider not putting "sexy" or "kitten" in your name. Also why is a team exclusively all female with support mains, how is this a strategical idea?
/r/MensRights23/02/19 01:25 AM

Female league player here. I don't get the point, honestly. Even if it was a dick move, if you have to resort to that in order to win, it's not like you're going to get far in league anyway. I mean I can get that they want players to be nicer to eachother, but unless you can prove what they did was sexist, I'm not sure it's justified banning them even if it was purposely a dick move.

It's not reckless, or offensive, it's breathtakingly ignorant. It's not exactly challenging to find empirical data supporting how detrimental rape is to the human psyche. Financially and emotionally the cost is massive. We're talking PTSD, other lasting psychological conditions, higher rates of obesity, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. Trauma has lasting effects on the body and the nervous system. The brain physically changes in brains with PTSD. And then there are lasting relationship issues, a…

In states where it's becoming more equalized both genders are able to get away with these things. It was something I found shocking going through the court system because I had always assumed they were biased towards women, but oh no, I've watched friends shell out thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars to get rid of the world's grimiest male specimens, and have a bitch of a time doing so with clear evidence of abuse/neglect/and weird sexually inappropriate behavior towards children- i.e.…

Well I think it's clear you identify with certain aspects of feminism, which is what I implied when I said the movement. No I don't have a tribal mentality, and like I said, discussing those things would require openness on your behalf which is not being conveyed.

Hmm, I certainly think that hormones can sort of propel the emotional train into full steam ahead, but I wouldn't say the cause is a biological one. Perhaps biology makes it easier for men to cling to logic (I don't have any evidence for this as a heads up), but I think logic is a great deal of practice, and I say this as someone who used to be very emotional and has reigned it in to the point of detriment by coming across as coldly rational. Periods still make me sad, but I'm also aware that th…

Fair enough, I could keep going back and forth about about the commercial but there's nothing that indicates to me that you are open to other opinions. If I'm reading you correctly it seems that you are interested in men's rights, but you also identify as a feminist or with the modern feminist movement which means we are disagreeing at a level that is probably too complex to tackle and would also require openness on your behalf. "Do women really like men opening up?" Call me crazy but I like my men to be human. But I agree, opening up does put anyone at the risk and I think anyone should be judicious about it. Well I didn't think of it as a proverb, but sure. I think as normal functioning people we tend to project our value system onto others, which means searching for ways to explain things through what I think of as a lens of normalcy or normal colored goggles. This is going to be difficult to show at the societal level because things at the macro tend to be less concrete so I'm going to use a real life example because it really on applies to normal people who tend to assume that other people are al…

I wouldn't necessarily jump to that, for one because I think anyone who is abusive is not going to be successful in doing that. Yelling at someone to be emotional is not going to elicit that sort of response. Abuse is probably going to be more insidious and specific i.e. like someone elses example of a guy crying when his grandpa died and the woman calling him a pussy. That's a good example because that woman is telling him to deny his feelings, those same feelings that are going to be eating aw…

I don't think this is a women problem, I think this is an abuser problem. My ex was very emotional, but my emotions were never valid to him, which makes sense because part of abuse is controlling the other person in their entirety. I would never use my fiance's sadness against him, when he cries I treat it very seriously, and I think the strength of our relationship comes from that ability/goal to be open with eachother. Not that either of us are all that great about it given our histories, but …

There are lots of things some women need to stop doing as well but we don't have commercials about it. Bear in mind, I have no stake in this, because I don't have a stake between my legs. I also don't find the commercial offensive, but that doesn't mean I can't see the biases and problems with it. So if you don't mind me asking, what does men's rights mean to you, and why are you here?

It is a strong word to use, and I'm probably biased. I think modern feminism preaches inclusiveness to the point of detriment. As an example we are supposed to be attracted to every gender, every sex, and every body type. I think that inclusiveness extends to people who are abusive/toxic because everybody is valuable. I don't think anyone who is abusive or toxic is ever worth keeping around for any reason. You could be right in that perhaps there is something to be said for making an example of …

Nothing exists in a vacuum my guy. At face value it says a lot of positive things about men, which is notably warm and fuzzy, especially during the parenting moments. And like I said, it's definitely not a negative ad overall, underlying message being men can be amazing, which shouldn't exactly be a surprise to anyone. But the purpose of the ad is that men need to be better. Men need to stop....selling drugs? Are men the only ones who perpetrate crimes? And men need to stop sexualizing women, ok…

I get where you are coming from, but I think everyone is offended because of how it intersects with modern feminism, and it ignores issues men face while telling them they need to be better. It's not an entirely negative commercial, but it is a biased one. That being said I'm going to break down some of the things that I think are plausible enough to seem "sensible." Which I think modern feminism tends to do by the way, the ideas can seem reasonable when they get diluted enough, except the funda…

Yeah. I read a nice long article defending him and his marriage toward her, but imo, if you need to paint a rosy picture of it, there's probably a reason why. Not that Christianity isn't fraught with its own issues, but I don't really see why we need to glorify something, or anyone really.

To be fair, most people don't want advice, some of us strive for constant self improvement and willingly welcome feedback, but then other people just seem to want to wallow in the misery. Idk, I mean yeah you probably shouldn't be harassing anyone that is fat, but harassment is already illegal. People are assholes, and if someone feels offended by other people that's something they need to work on with in themselves. You can't correct the world, but you can correct your perception

Agreed, but I don't think everyone makes that distinction, and models deserve to be healthy and unstarved too. This is true! I think women who are sensitive about their weight and need to compensate by being "inclusive" are really just afraid of getting rejected. But like my previous example, you can get rejected for anything. Can't say I would ever date a fit doctor, what would we have in common? The system is onviously riddled with problems and can be worse or less worse depending on your area. But in mine there is a strong push for reunification or children staying with extended family. There's no denying it's a huge problem, but when I did my internship there there were families helping other families get back their kids and social workers intervening with a known sex offender. It's a necessary evil because we don't have a better system.

Yeah dude, that's a big sign you're getting it wrong, you need to rethink your approach stat. Kids are naturally going to think the world of their parents, it's a protective factor and you can see this even in kids that have been abused. No parents inherently deserve love from their children, children deserve love from their parents. Keeping score like that in any relationship is not going to work, especially with children. Imagine telling your best friend you deserved a phone call to them answered and that they were required to show you love and affection. Anyone would naturally be aversive to those kinds of demands, and they don't work subtly either. Your children don't owe you anything because it was your choice to bring them…

I feel badly for saying this, but I think it needs to be said. No parent is entitled to a relationship with their child because that is not the purpose of parenting. The purpose of parenting is to sufficiently provide for your child and steer them into a functional individual. Very interesting, thank you for sharing and linking! This is purely speculation, but I'm not surprised the community is more libertarian and also educated, because there has to be a capacity to think outside of the norm, so I would expect more free thinkers in general. It is refreshing to read though, because it feels isolating to hold less popular ideas in the professional realm. Especially as a female in human services where casual jokes about the inequality of women are the norm.

Well, I had an arguement with my best friend about rape culture tonight and how it wasn't real, and there was no fact, no statistic I could use that helped her look at the situation objectively. On a personal level it's isolating and frustrating. So although I agree with you, I get how the culture has contributed to that, I'm just at the point in my life where I feel like people who need excuses will always need excuses, and frankly I don't feel like it's deserved. An ideaology shouldn't justify…

Yeah you're probably right. At this point I think it's me having a problem with it, and being so sick of the ideaology. Sick of reading about how feminist women think anti-feminist women just need the "magic of sisterhood." Sick of arguing with people who cant argue objective reasoning.

I really don't think some people are capable of separating their emotions from...anything. I just argued with my best friend for thirty minutes about why rape culture doesnt exist to no avail. Ugh. I should, go do some math or something, to remember the world can be a peaceful and happy place.

And furthermore, this picture keeps with the feminist paradigm of everything revolving around them, like whether or not men are good because women raise them. I was raised by a dad who molested me and a mom who was falling apart because her husband cheated on her multiple times, but I still know there are a lot of good men out there, becuase men who are raised without fathers and had female role models are not doomed to a life of feminimity any more than I was raised to be a feminist by shitty m…

I mean honestly though. There are good men everywhere, it's not like they are hiding. Go to work and I guarantee you will find at least a few. Sometimes it's hard to find a good partner, but that's a process that always takes time and if you are blaming men being different instead of taking a cold honest look at yourself or taking the forward steps to increase your exposure that's on you. I don't like when men see themselves as not being relevant or that they have to do something different becau…

I think in cases where a woman lies, and abuse is not present, damages and fines certainly make sense but it honestly doesn't seem like enough. Mandatory prevention with genetic testing might be better. I disagree with the primary physical custody automatically given to anyone, but custody should immediately be considered. One reason is that the father who raised the child might want custody. But I think anyone who has invested in a childs life should be included, i.e. if my husband and I divorc…

I would probably be really blunt about it and tell him that you weren't sitting down until he tried to shake your arm off, or something he would find humorous. I find kids of all ages respond well to obstinance and humor. And idk man, that sounds like every woman I've ever shook hands with. As a woman who shakes hands like a male CEO I've always wondered if I was doing something wrong...

Is it the handshake you find repulsive or is it another reason like drool etc? Either way I wouldn't exit my comfort zone to do it, but when I worked with disabilities I wore gloves all the time, even though my superiors didn't like it (the smell of saliva is repulsive to me). Not sure if he is disabled but if so you might consider having him exercise it for a while.

So a couple things. One I find it odd that this is in India, none us may love feminism, but there is some shitty crap going over there, and as far as I know it's very much a patriarchal society. So I'm wondering if the lover has been charged with the murder instead. Because of their, different, cultural views they might see him as more culpable.

I hate to be that person, and I'm always the first to bitch about feminism, and it's very sexist and shitty overall....but I don't think we should be trading nude pictures of men or women so I personally think that small, tiny, nearly unrelated piece of it is good...you know....would be significantly better if it wasn't so fucking sexist...

Well I don't suppose you have to, but it also makes me suspect your opinion is rooted in personal experience so I will counter with logic. Attraction is highly variable, and attraction does not equal cheating. With me so far? None of this in any way excuses small, transient, amounts of biological attraction leading to cheating and is a non-sequitor. Because attraction either leads to cheating or it doesn't. It should be somewhat obvious that it does not lead to cheating. It is my opinion that a …

I would say watch out for loud outspoken men who give no fucks, that's a good indication that something is right. Also professions that are more science based are always a better bet. I just changed from social work to behavior analysis, so much less crazy. And definitely businesses as opposed to non-profits. A healthy level of competition helps weed out people who are afraid of it. I've also found conservatives who are more moderate to be a nice balm of sanity. And definitely avoid places where…

I wish I had an easy solution for this. I do think as the rhetoric becomes more extreme more people will start to drop off. I think education about manipulation and control doesn't hurt, but it is going to be difficult to explain to the layperson. Unless you have had your life burned to a crisp by someone manipulative it's going to be difficult to identify those tactics in modern feminism. But the rift that's being perpetuated between men and women is harder, and I think the over emphasis on fee…

I honestly think the excessive terminology is just an essy way to shut down dissenting opinions. When you don't even allow someone to use language you cut them off at the root. This is something I've noticed in more niche and creepy corners of psychotherapy. Give it a new language and it's just another layer of coercion.

13 and 14 year old bodies have not even finished maturing. Labeling their sexual curiosity as consent is the same rhetoric every pedophile I have ever worked with has used to justify their crimes on children who are younger. 13 and 14 year olds have not yet descended into formal ooperational thinking and are intellectually not on the same level as adults.

Wow. Just. Wow. What a disgusting fetid waste of flesh. The disparity in sentencing is really crazy, even with men. I worked with sex offenders and I would get guys who had raped children and had gotten 2 years, and an adult rapist who had been in for 10.

It's really sad that the division is happening. I have tried so hard to reach out to women I know in my life to try and unpack the 4th wave bullshit, and what I got in response was aggression and attacks on my character. I was told that I was turning against feminism because the guy I liked helped me unpack it. Die hard feminists by the way, are horrible friends. My only criticism is that I feel like the questions were slightly biased. As an example, I said a man should sacrifice himself financially slightly for a woman (only if married), but likewise, the exact same should be expected of women.
