The point of the post is why are marriage rates falling. I responded that its because most people are in it for themselves. Then they're response implied that they are unwilling to do something for others unless it benefits them. I am basically saying that if you arent willing to sacrifice then why should others, further proving my point of why marriage rates are falling. Maybe they dont expect anything from others, but we are talking about marriage which is defined by expectations.

I would argue that most people are getting married assuming it’s going to be easy. They don’t understand that it will take work for the rest of their lives. So yes, most people don’t think they will get divorced when they get married. Most people also don’t understand that marriage isn’t this excuse to stop trying to be a good partner. I also believe people get married for reasons that go against the reason for marriage in the first place. Financial stability, looks, avoidance of being alone, th…

That’s what all the dictators in the 20th century said too. We need less selfish, resentful, and morally corrupt people. Not less people.

Then don’t expect anyone else to do it for you. What do you think marriage is? It’s sacrificing yours to benefit theirs. They should do the same in return. Unfortunately, everyone is too concerned about themselves to care enough about someone else.

Well it obviously was never said during the marriage said divorce was ending.

By the way I don’t disagree with it being reasonable to think “what’s in this for me.” Im just saying it is equally as reasonably to think “what am I bringing to the table.” Both genders could greatly benefit from that slight change in thinking.

What I mean by my comment is that everyone (men AND women) is so worried about how they will benefit in almost any situation they forget that it’s a good thing to be selfless. Of course their are people who will exploit that selflessness but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good for you as a person. If people would just strive to be better everyday and stop seeing what they can take and start seeing what they can give it would be much easier to find a partner that wouldn’t screw you over. I say this b…

This is the issue with both men and women. It’s always “what’s in it for me?” Me me me. How about we say “how can I benefit others today?” It would make the world a much better place. People are just so selfish today it’s hard to witness.

The truth is we don’t live in a patriarchy (talking about the US). Most people in prison are men, most people who are homeless are men, most victims of violent crime are men, most people who commit suicide are men, most people who die in wars are men, people who do worse in school are mostly men, etc. Where exactly is the male dominance at? People will point out that most financial assets are owned by men but that’s a small substrata of hyper successful men. In reality, most men are disaffected …

It’s absolutely not the same thing. Some people don’t separate sex with emotion and intimacy. Not saying it’s wrong too but to say those two scenarios are no different is very disingenuous.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
