If your worth comes from making stuff… that’s not intrinsic.

The new policing and sentencing guidelines over race are good. “Minority groups are more likely to have negative outcomes in the justice system, so we need to police and sentence in a way that creates equity”. Cannot imagine them trying to do the same for men and women. Especially as they’ve already brought in the female offender strategy that uses the exact opposite logic of “men more likely to commit crime therefore need tougher sentencing”.

It goes deeper than just the marking; the entire curriculum is set up to advantage girls and disadvantage boys. I don’t think this is intentional, just due to a general unwillingness to accept that boys and girls are different and learn differently. I was in a meeting a few months back where we were going through predicted gcse grades and when we were going through demographics the manager running us through the data said “boys are letting us down”. I was the only one who suggested that perhaps …

Well men cannot be trusted in an unsanctioned male space. Needs feminist influence to make sure they’re discussing their feelings correctly. /s Genuinely think they reckon the patriarchy will plan something off they don’t get their elbows in.

A key factor in loneliness is the eradication of male spaces and therefore the reduction in inter-generational male friendships. People who go to church or the boxing gym or some other social location tend not to be lonely, regardless of whether they are in a relationship or not. It is important that these places are maintained, encouraged and kept free of feminist ideology (man sheds and the like founded on the idea of men being killed by toxic masculinity).

The Venn Diagram of people able to treat their patients with due respect and compassion and also willing to chop people open is pretty narrow. There are tonnes of introverted, autistic spectrum disorder doctors who make great doctors, even though their bedside-manner might be a tad blunt.

“Ah but prison works for men, y’see; much lower rate of re-offending than women. Actually, the more men we lock up, the lower the recidivism rate!” Would be their reply!
/r/MensRights14/01/25 09:40 PM

We are not less likely to re-offend though, it’s just that only the worst female offenders that get locked up and they’re more likely to reoffend than the broader range of male offenders that get locked up. We need to compare the toughest 4% of female offenders (who get locked up) to the toughest 4% of male offenders who get locked up (along with loads of other men) to have any idea of who is more likely to reoffend.
/r/MensRights14/01/25 09:28 PM

If you lock up only a small percentage of women (the most troubled) they will have a higher concentration of mental health problems. The fewer women you lock up, the higher the concentration of problems and re-offending. It’s great! Because the “solution” makes the problem worse, so you can just keep on making the same argument! /s Edit: the only way you could compare male and female offenders, would be to compare female offenders only to the male offenders that would be locked up at the same ra…

There’s nothing that shows how either thick or malicious these people are than the Female Offender Strategy. I spoke to a politician about this and they trotted out the usual line of “prison is bad for women, look at the recidivism rates… female offenders re-offend at a higher rate than male offenders!” It is so obvious that if you only lock up the most hardened 5% of female offenders and the top 50% of male offenders, then recidivism will be higher for women over men. The irony is, if you want …

This reminds me of a Stacey Dooley documentary where she was investigating femicide in some South American country. She sat in a hospital waiting for a woman to be wheeled in, occasionally getting excited only to realise it was another dead or dying man.

From the point of view of a teacher who is mindful of this, girls and boys do tend to misbehave differently. Girls do a lot more “quiet” misbehaviour that is easier to overlook for the sake of the lesson. Eg. “Oh she’s making a paper chain/oh they’re whispering and passing notes”. A lot of boys seriously just don’t have a whisper setting and that can increase the trouble the get in. Then girls respond more skillfully when you do challenge them (“I’ll just say ok and stop for 3 minutes before res…

Bit of nature, bit of nurture. I think the behaviour from boys without male role models is quite specific and you can usually guess when there’s not going to be a dad listed in their home contact info; they are either very drawn to you or enter into power struggles with you. The development differences are visible, though; you can visibly see that girls are taller and more physically developed. Some of the 12 year old girls are pretty much already at their full adult heights and the boys won’t c…

Yeah I disagree with their being no intellectual differences. You can see on IQ bell-curves that boys are way more varied. Girls certainly tend to be more agreeable and neurotic, personality-wise, which leads to positive student behaviour. I’m sure some of this is socialisation, but a lot of it just seems to be natural. There are general differences between the sexes.

UK speaking, there’s definitely an ideal age for each individual to do their GCSEs. It isn’t necessarily one June when you are 15 or 16. The more mature are at a massive advantage. Girls mature very swiftly. Boys are like a fine wine, as Schopenhauer suggested.

I’m not entirely sure it is just teacher bias. I’m a teacher and I see a few different things going on. 1) girls develop at a faster rate than boys. Exam-age girls are more mature than exam-age boys. Any attainment gap would have shrunk if exams were taken at 21. 2) girls are more consistent, boys are more varied. There are more very clever and creative boys and more idiot boys. The girls tend to be better at following instructions and doing well-enough. Average intelligence is probably about eq…

Funny that the easiest way to decrease recidivism rates is just send loads of marginal cases to prison. Going to be funny when they eventually get to 100% female reoffending when they’re just sending 20-30 of the same women to prison. Although when that happens, they’ll just use the obvious explanation of “we’re only jailing the worst women” and not expand that out to their earlier position. It’s so frustrating!

It’s enshrined in the law in the UK. Here’s an extract from the 2018 Female Offender Strategy, which is an interesting read: We know that there is a higher prevalence of need amongst female offenders, such as mental health problems, and self-harm. Many experience chaotic lifestyles which are often the product of a life of abuse and trauma; almost 60% of female offenders have experienced domestic abuse. One of the main problems with these things is that people are really thick. I spoke to my MP a…

Your solicitor isn’t looking to win the case? Surely them threatening to kill you and you having a reasonable fear for your life means that killing them would be reasonable force? Write to your MP. Write to friendly media figures. Martin Daubney and Mike Buchanan would be a good start. I’d really just be trying to create the biggest stink about this as possible. Even if it just means there’s media to point out to show how broken the system is.

None of the therapists I’ve seen pretend to give a shit. That’s not really what it’s about. You tend not to get much sympathy from them. It’s more about reframing things that can be reframed, helping to explain relationship and interaction dynamics, pointing out things that should be very obvious that you fail to see. The two good therapists that I’ve seen were incredibly skilled. One of them very quickly pointed a few things out that completely changed the way k look at things. The contrast bet…

I think most people go into it to help people. A lot of people don’t have the appropriate support structures around them, and therapists are a decent alternative. There are a lot of terrible therapists out there, though. Big and complex problems can benefit from someone experienced and knowledgable. I wouldn’t have felt comfortable talking about my friends suicide to the extent I wanted to with my friends and family. Therapy was a good option. They weren’t profiting off my misery. I wasn’t miser…

You’re right. Suicide rates among people who access psychotherapy are 25%-30% lower than those who don’t access it. It’s very helpful. I’ll happily tell anyone that I call a therapist whenever I stub my toe and would encourage people to do the same. But I’d say inter-generational male friendship has had a more positive impact on my mental health, and there are fewer and fewer spaces for this to happen. I genuinely believe the decline of the pub and the church have caused massive problems for men…

I think we need to step away from this “it’s ok to talk” narrative around male suicide, like emotional stoicism and lacking emotional intelligence are the main reason for male suicide. 100% talking and seeking help are important, but a majority of men who kill themselves have actually spoken and have sought help, and such a message can be isolating. I remember the CEO of CALM saying “the answer is simple: Talk about it” and I lost all respect for the (feminist-run) organisation. The answer is ac…

There's quite a bit of important context in this. There are plenty of circumstances where crying is appropriate. I cried in front of a class whilst reading a book last week and that felt fine and appropriate. Being moved by art and music is a sign of developed empathy. There are probably times when crying is going to be more of a hindrance than a help. Crying because you feel sorry for yourself can alienate people and have them form a negative view of you. This probably isn't the the best course…

Excellent. I’ve heard some issues for the new generation of uncut Americans come from parents not knowing what to do and bad medical advice telling them to force retraction for a good cleaning on toddlers.
/r/MensRights11/11/23 06:44 PM
2

What special cleaning needs to take place? It’s not retractable until 5 at the earliest and you shouldn’t be trying to retract it before it is ready to do so. Certainly pre-pubescent boys don’t need to be taught any unusual cleaning rituals; the glans is an internal organ for the first decade of life and I certainly don’t try to do any invasive cleaning on my daughter’s genitals.

Please do not circumcise your son. If he is angry at you for not doing it, let him get it done when he is old enough to decide. Even better, put the $500 or whatever profit the medical industry makes from these procedures into a savings account; should have doubled in 18 years. Give him that and say he can have it to pay for a circumcision if he wants. There’s nothing you can do to give him his foreskin back if you take it now. This isn’t the whole picture. Heterosexual female attraction is very consistent for the top 20%, but everything between 4-7 is really random. If you’re around average looking, there’ll be some women whose boat you float, and tonnes who don’t even notice you. I suggested this to a female friend once who at first called bullshit, but ask any woman “do you and your friends agree on who is attractive” and they’ll say no.

As if Macbeth is held up as a role model for anyone. The entire point of it is that he is a bad example of masculinity who is weak and corrupt. Macduff, on the other hand, responding to the murder of his family with “I shall dispute it like a man, but I must also feel it like a man” is the guy we’re supposed to look up to and admire. Scrooge is the same: an example of what you don’t want to be who becomes the sensitive family guy that you should want to be. They’ve just highlighted two character…

I was talking to some of the lads on my class about this the other day. Even as someone who is aware of this, I find myself being both stricter and harsher with grades with boys. Do they want to reduce total acts of violence against women, or just reduce the proportion of violence that is perpetrated against women? Perhaps they could just campaign for more violence against men. Anyway, as a teacher in the uk, this sort of messaging is already bandied about. Funnily enough though, trying to enact group responsibility doesn’t really have much of an impact.

It seems very strange leaving your child in the care of a 10yo. I don’t think it’s even legal in The UK where I am. Even with the most trustworthy 10yo on the planet, you don’t know how much hey are going to respond to a crisis. What would they do if the child chokes on something? Or if something catches fire? Firstly, I’m really sorry about your negative experience. It does happen with some regularity that you run into a workplace psycho. It’ll end up catching up with them and they’ll end up having to “do a geographic” to carry on their psychotic ways. The best definitions I’ve seen appear to be around the idea of excessive stoicism to the detriment of self. Nothing really wrong with tacking the problem of excessive stoicism; the problem is that it isn’t exclusively a masculine trait and treating it as such does not help excessively stoical women very much. The two most emotionally illiterate people I have met were women. One is having a massive identity crisis and the other killed herself.

Hmm. I think the “nice guy” thing goes a bit deeper than that. That which you describe is quite obvious, but the real issue is male co-dependency; that is, men who find their value in what they can offer to a woman. It’s a bit of a swizz because a lot of what young boys are told is that one of their primary purposes is to serve women, but that really isn’t what makes a successful relationship or man. You cannot fulfil the needs of others if your own needs are not met first. I think women get a s…

It can take a long time to find the right therapist. I’ve always gone for male therapists as they are a safer bet and are likely to be more sympathetic; although depending on their ideology, this is not guaranteed. It’s not a straw man. You’re the one that seems to feel the need to protect your right to mutilate genitalia by saying it is t as bad as FGM. So it was a genuine question. Are you ok with female genitals being mutilated just a little bit? Not even as much as removing a foreskin. Just a tiny mutilation?

Good for you! Some men do suffer lifelong complications. Anyway. They are in some ways comparable due to the reasons behind the practices and the practices themselves. If you’re watching porn every time you masturbate, you’re training your brain into needing fairly unnatural stimulation. This is one of the reasons why there’s an epidemic of lads in their 20s suffering erectile dysfunction. Any attempt at self-reflection will reveal that habitual porn use is, at best, unskillful. I think a lot of the advice here is a tad cautious. You obviously have to be careful. I’ve passed on ONSs when the other person has had just a couple of drinks; in hindsight this has seemed over-cautious. At your age and experience level, you really just need more to be meeting and talking to women to get your confidence up. At least she’s honest and has some awareness of herself. It’s much better than the usual “I want men to cry” and then for some reason going cold on their partner when they do. I also don’t think you should be crying when you injure yourself. What is the fucking point in that?

You don’t even know what has happened to the lad. UK defines rape as penetration with the penis of the vagina, anus or mouth without consent. It doesn’t say that the boy was buggered, so it might be perfectly accurate to say the girl was raped, the boy was assaulted.

You’re right that good looks are an easy foot in the door. I’ve known plenty of very good looking men who cannot hold down a relationship due to shit confidence, though. All the incel stuff you’re into becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Be careful not to get locked into having your current perception repeatedly confirmed. There’ll be tonnes of women who view you as a 7-8 if you are objectively a 5-6, because female attraction is so subjective. It’s just meeting them is the bugger. Online dating…

Not sure that this is entirely true. I saw a study that made a lot of sense to me from okCupid data that whilst women tend to agree on the top 15-20% of men and the bottom 15-20%, where you land if you’re in the middle is an absolute crapshoot. Some women will think you’re a 3, others will think you’re a 7. Female attraction seems to be a lot less consistent than male attraction. That’s only based on looks as well. I know that it sounds cliche, but there’s a lot more to being attractive than goo…

Well staying in an unhappy relationship is unsustainable. The result of the separation will either be us getting back together with me being a better and happier man, or me moving on a better and happier man. So whilst it may seem like the worst thing imaginable, it’s actually the best thing to happen. Didn’t feel like it when I first found out though!

This is 100% the best and most sensible comment on here. I’m going through similar and realising that I am 50% responsible for my partner’s unhappiness in the relationship has made things so much easier. I don’t feel like a victim, I don’t hate my partner and I’m genuinely feeling pretty happy.

Pissing off parents can trigger them writing to Ofsted, so most schools try to avoid this. Parasuicidal behaviour is much more common in women and will often be recorded as a suicide attempt, even when there was no actual intent to end life. I suspect that men and women are equally competent when it is something they actually want to do. I also suspect that the different responses men and women receive to a failed suicide attempt drives the disparity in parasuicidal behaviour.

I’d double check with them that it isn’t just that your wife’s number is listed first on the school’s info management system. It could have been inputted wrong. Just get your wife to give the office a call and say that you are to be contacted first. There are definitely some teachers who ignore whichever order they’re listed in and just call mum though.

I don’t know if it’s most, but I think it is a massive problem. If you look at rates of fatherlessness among prison inmates, there is at least a correlation. In education you can often have an educated guess about whether there is going to be a male contact on file before you look for them. There are loads both pro/against the idea if you google “importance of male role models for boys”. I won’t select any in particular so you can read up freely.

Father absenteeism and a lack of men in early years care/education. There are some boys that hardly meet a man until secondary school. Those kids can be quite odd, saying very inappropriate things to the girls or trying to get into a power conflict with male teachers. It’s damaging for boys to grow up without men around.

Admittedly I’ve only taught in a couple of schools, but the idea that a “lad culture” is common among male staff is fucking ridiculous. I saw a video about this study. I’ll try to find it. From what I remember they were using a 1 to 5 likelihood scale where 1 to 4 was taken as a positive response. Problem with this is, when asked “would you verbally coerce somebody into sex?” the “very likely” response is treated the same as “unlikely”. It was also a really small study, with the offer of extra credit for completing it. Some people were obviously taking the piss, responding “highly unlikely” to every question apart from “would yo…

We have his in the UK; I thought exactly the same thing and that it would backfire on them and equalise the numbers across genders. The reality is it has only been used to prosecute men (I think it was literally 1 woman in a heterosexual relationship that has even been charged) and has been used to drive up convictions against men.

Having teachers decide GCSE grades in the UK is going to be a nightmare. They didn’t release the gender-breakdown of the 2020 results, and then quietly revealed months later that when teachers decide the grades, the gender gap gets even more massive. Most women don’t want this, most men don’t want this. The purpose of these spaces isn’t to guard against the statistically unlikely event of a stranger on stranger attack in a car park, it is to make a statement about the inherent dangers of men. It’s like putting “Warning:Look out for snakes!” signs around New York. The logic behind it is that fatherhood is more socially determined than biologically determined. They see the family unit as important (which is good) and protect it by making paternity tests hard to get (which is bad) to maintain peace within families. Nothing like lingering doubt and anxiety over paternity to make you feel happy and secure in a relationship. Where paternity is contested, a father can apply to the court for a test. Not sure how it works in marriage, but I know it’s difficult an…

Lol. It is literally an opinion. It doesn’t need proof. It’s just taken from observations that anybody poly that I’ve met has been outrageously self-centred with kids on a fast-track to an attachment disorder. “You shouldn’t sacrifice your own happiness and satisfaction for the sake of children” - I think that’s the fundamental difference in our viewpoints.
/r/MensRights16/07/20 06:10 AM

Because the focus is shifted outside of the family unit rather than inside. Raising kids is difficult and is traditionally the primary goal of the nuclear family. Even if the child isn’t fully aware, it can still have an effect on them.

In the UK, the child receives child benefit regardless of whether the father is involved. They would have to do without 12% of the father’s wage. You could not use the same arguments against a woman. You cannot make a woman carry a child, you cannot make a woman take financial or emotional responsibility for a child.
