Actually, data does support your point - studies have shown that people who are socially integrated in a healthy way tend to be happier than people who are extremely high on independence and self-sufficiency. Why? Because a) humans are extremely social animals. But by the end of the movie, Tyler had become the antagonist. You can't be an island, nor should you be. Humans are social creatures.
