My mother is... 64 years old, though she'd likely kill me for stating that aloud. We were having dinner last night and there was a piece about this on whatever special-interests program she had on. When they stated the disparity in sentencing, the first words out of her mouth were: "her ass should be in there just as long and then some." Made me proud.

My mother put it really well. When the Twilight Mothers picture was posted here (no, she is not one), I emailed it to her, as she is quite intelligent -- She has her doctoral in Psychology, etc. This was her one-lined response: The difference now is that women can do what men used to do. It should have gone the other way. My mother and I don't see eye-to-eye on (m)any subjects... but I was proud of her for that one.

I did see this occur at one frat party that I had attended when I was in college. (Yes, I saw it first hand and in a roundabout way I got a response from one of the frat brothers confirming it. I then knocked it over and spilt it over their kitchen flooring.) I don't think the problem to be nearly as big of an issue as it is made out to be though.

It's not just in medications. Phthalates are found in almost any soft plastic as well as in almost any cosmetic product and everything in between (not only does it soften plastic but it can act as a binding agent as well, hence the latter usage). Additionally, since it is a "sub-ingredient" it does not have to be listed on product labels. The globulins created by the phthalates bind to testosterone, rendering it useless. Couple that with the fact that BPA is found in nearly everything as well...…

My understanding is that an increase in phthalate monoesters correlates causally with an increase in SHBG (sex-hormone binding globulines). Basically they bind themselves to estradiol and testosterone. When that happens, the hormone essentially no longer functions in the sense that one would think hormones normally do.

Yeah, again the issue is that your wife will have been tainted by the years of exposure. I know that 'tainted' is a poor word and probably sounds misogynist out of context, but it is the truth. If men nursed kids, I'd say that we were tainted, too. Bisphenol A is another endocrine disruptor that can wreak havoc on young boys especially. BPA is found in a lot of soft plastics and other products as well. Everything from water bottles to teeth fillings.

Your sarcasm is heavily appreciated here. Phthalates or an analogue with similar effect are found in almost any softened plastic. The endocrine disruptions are devastating. Beyond that, too, it has been found to build up inside the human body. And where do you find the strongest concentrations of it? Colostrum. Breast milk.
