That’s what this shitty society wants you to think. That‘s what your upbringing did to you. But your brain is flexible and you can break out of that thought (it’s just a thought, nothing more). You deserve goodness by virtue of being a person. You are a human and deserve to be treated as such. I’ve hated myself like you. It is a dark place. Hold on. Keep coming to FDS. Keep trying. Be kind to yourself above all else. This pain you feel is not all there is. It is just a feeling. There is so much …

Punish yourself by removing him from your life. It will hurt differently than that cold floor, but will set you free. Good chance you’re hooked on him — the highs and lows give the same effect as a drug. It is hard to break free of that, and many of us have made similar lapses. Every second that passes and every new day is a chance to try again. We learn to walk by a series of false starts and stumbles — a series of mistakes. Mistakes are how we learn. All that pain you’ve turned inward, turn it…

I’m sorry. I misread your comment. I was under the guise that a past partner had treated you poorly and possibly been “better” to his dream girl. A common scenario, but I got it wrong in your case. Removed!

I’ve learned some big things: Many men don’t see women as human beings, and it’s not my job to try to win over those men. “If he wanted to be would” doesn’t matter if he doesn’t see you as an actual person. His “dream girl” isn’t real if he sees women as things — it’s his dream object. Men like that will never be satisfied and it ends up being a miserable life for the women they end up with. And it isn’t my fault. The solution isn’t to try and become the shiniest object possible before your pati…

Even though this is likely fake, if content like this were much more prolific, it would change people’s brains. Humans mimic what they see. The more you see it, the more you internalize it. It doesn’t end in childhood. That’s how advertising works. That’s how porn ruined sex. That’s how propaganda works. That’s how fashion works. So a resounding fuck yes to wholesome content.

Right?! Hey Luke, I’m a Renaissance woman. Why are you on Bumble waiting for ladies to make the first move? I thought this was the fucking Renaissance. Woo me by singing me a song while playing the lute or something. Ffs Luke.

Definitely be with someone you are attracted to, but know that the hot ones can be fucked up too. Remember the post from that psychopath who slept with 400 girls? Men are men. The majority see women as objects, regardless of their attractiveness level. So pick a hot one that doesn’t see you as an object. Looks are necessary but not sufficient. Looks can also cloud your judgment, making you more likely fall in love with some imagined version of the guy. Stay vigilant always.

Tangentially related, that reminds me of a sleazy real estate agent tactic: talk to potential clients extensively, bring them small gifts, take up as much of their time as possible with phony forms they need to fill out or really anything you can think of. And the potential clients will feel falsely connected or indebted to the agent and choose them for their home sale. Connects to PUA tactics, too, of asking a bajillion lame questions, feigning serious interest even though they barely know her …

Vanguard index funds. Life strategy growth and total world stock index have served me well. Buy and hold — be in it for the long term, don’t bank on gaming the system. But when everything crashes BUY. Right now, travel-related stocks are on sale. I mainly do the index fund approach, but have select few stocks or specialized funds.

Oh no 😞. This is what happens when patriarchy reigns. I am naive and privileged here in America, not fully grasping the realities that others face. Thank you for so kindly and patiently going into detail on what your struggles are in your society. It’s infuriating and unfair. My first inclination is to beg you to come to America, where most Indian women I know are married and are people’s bosses and managers and are basically kicking ass. Post-covid shared activities? Here there are language classes, art classes, trips associated with language classes, Meetups, book clubs, making friends and meeting people through them etc. It really is hard to meet people outside of school, so I think that’s why a lot of us keep taking classes. Men in my city don’t cold approach either. It is tough.

Yes, they do exist. They are hard to come by in today’s world where we have a narcissism epidemic. They exist in places you don’t expect (not online). And even if you find one, there’s no guarantee you’ll be compatible. The biggest thing is values — what is their moral code? What to they do when no one is watching? I’ve dated at least two men who didn’t see women as objects. It was lovely! I did not meet either of them online.

Thing is if Eureka made some high-line glitter lavender vacuum I’d be all over it. 😉 The point of the story is that women are people, not objects. There are no “upgrades” and anyone who sees women like that is doomed to be forever unsatisfied. Just like me with vacuums. For those of us who don’t objectify, it’s not about the specific features — it’s about if you’re attracted to this person and get along with them. It’s about the time you share with the person and the life you build together. Rem…

Well said! It really is a red flag 🤔 — when I wrote this, I was more thinking post-relationship-mortem, but I think you’re right. “This two dimensional, pretty perfect object ‘dream girl’” captures it beautifully. These men get so used to looking at 2-D — photos, video games, porn... sad that it’s got them here where they can’t (won’t) see our humanity. Red flag indeed!

That is terrifying. That kind of stuff sticks with you. I had a violent ex once and it was so scary. Reminds me of when people smash a controller when playing a game because they get frustrated. Your guy reminds me of paying $1000 for a friggin vacuum. Even with your experience, time was the magic thing. With time, men who objectify get desensitized to the shiny new and crave something with some different spec (higher appreciation wattage), even if it’s imaginary. The type (or specs or brand) that they crave can change — if a man cannot fall in love with the time he expended with you and the life he builds with you, and instead only sees you as an object with specs, you’re screwed no ma…

Totally! And all those actresses and models get cheated on and messed around with at the end of the day. There is always someone else shiny and new. If a man values shiny-new instead of the life you build together, he’s cursed. They say we should value experiences over things. Funny how men who objectify women don’t see how this trendy logic applies to them. Namely, the experience of building a life and story with someone you love is worth more than some shiny new “thing”. Alas, these cursed men…

“Find their dream girl and discarded” is toxic language that we need to banish. I know what you mean, but I vehemently disagree with the implication of that statement. Namely, it implies he’ll be better for his “dream girl” — this is false. NVM users have rotten core values. They can fake it for a little while, but at the end of the day, they’ll treat “dream girl” like shit too. These are the same men who leave their wives who have cancer. There is no “dream girl” because these men see women as …

It’s fake when they “change” for someone else. Their core values are bad. This is why they never truly change. They may put on a show to have sex with a shiny new model, but they can’t sustain it long-term. They will always revert back to the behavior that falls in line with their core values. Let’s say they marry the next girl and really put on a show to be the accepted devoted husband — how much does that matter if he’s still eyeing other women? How much does that show matter if he is still je…

Nowadays we’re in the gilded era all over again. The gap between the rich and the poor is vast. If you manage to claw your way up the ladder, the fall is just so far... Oh my goodness... so many nightmares! I am so glad you finally found someone good. It is so true that this field is rife with mean/abusive/burnt out people. This is gonna sound silly, but female flight attendants and female doctors. Both of those professions have to deal with people and be nice , BUT their first priority is safety. The flight attendant is nice, but if you don’t want to buckle your seatbelt or refuse to sit down, that plane ain’t going ANYWHERE. Doctors are empathetic and helpful, but you can’t sit there talking to them all day — they have other patients. Watch how these professionals politely and unapologetically enforce boundaries.…

Anyone can be a therapist these days. I have had much better experiences with people who have PhDs. It sounds elitist, but if people are so passionate about their fields that they go to school for a bajillion years to get their doctorate in it, that’s a very positive sign. The psychologists I went to who had their doctorates were smart, honest, respectful, and very up to date on the latest research. Yes to healthy boundaries. I see a lot of female role models out there for healthy boundaries, particularly among women of color. It makes my heart happy to look to them. Male “boundaries” are often illusory. A commitment to laziness and lack of human decency can create the appearance of “boundaries”. “I won’t do that because I don’t want to and it will make me sad!” sounds great until “that” is actually visiting a dying relative or going to a loved one’s funeral (true story of my ex). I agree with this, with caution. I did this with my ex and it was certainly entertaining... I can still hear him, “you just rolled your eyes at what I said, wtf?” And me being like, “I learned it from you.” It was a nice little break of schadenfreude in between his emotional abuse. The thing is, by mirroring, I practiced and thus internalized a lot of his nasty behaviors. I had practiced carrying his same energy for over a year, which was toxic. I had practiced being like him. I detoxed and foun…

FDS addresses this to some degree, by educating women as to what the definition of “good enough” is (hint: not the bare minimum). Good enough has to be good after all. By choosing partners wisely, we can define “good enough” as what it should be: love, effort, respect, etc.

+1 so hard to trauma that is visible in the face. The expressions we make etch lines into our faces. I have spent so much time crying and being hurt that it would show in my face. I am so glad for Botox so that I don’t have to wear the trauma of the past 5 years on my face. Now I’m in a better place, and I am so happy to look in the mirror and not be haunted by those lines of pain.

I accidentally became pregnant. In my 30s with a great job and 100s of thousands in the bank. A happy accident in my eyes. I always thought he’d be best as a stay at home dad, since he didn’t make much. I would have supported the family. He pressured me to abort. He resented me mainly for not being beautiful enough. He said he’d be settling for anything less than a supermodel and we fought over that, which he didn’t like. We’d been together 18 months. I was devastated. Miscarried naturally the d…

If we take that route, I think we need a means to distinguish types of transactional love. My last boyfriend (true story) told me he would not be able to love me unless I got a nose job to remove a tiny hump from my nose. That is how I see transactional love. Whereas I demanded he occasionally say kind words to me, which I saw as “fair” love. I said his love for me should not be conditioned on whether or not I have a ski slope nose, as that was transactional and wrong. Thus I really think we sho…
