I suspect most of us are old enough to realize that looks are subjective, and that as you grow to dislike someone they become less attractive. My ex wife was a smokeshow but by the time we divorced I didn’t see her that way. My first girlfriend after divorce was maybe the hottest woman I had ever seen. We broke up and I saw her a few months later. She hadn’t changed, but I’d rate her a 5-6 now that I’m not emotionally attached to her.

Eh. My mom kept my dad’s last name. After 47 years of marriage it made sense. My dad cheated and left. Mom said all her grandkids knew her as “Grandma [last name],” and she wanted to keep the same name as all her kids (4 sons so no name change). She’s also very religious, and her church uses last names so she’s “sister [last name].” I get it, for some people it makes sense. If my ex wife had wanted to keep my last name I wouldn’t care.

That's a very difficult spot to be in. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

You know what I don’t see in here? “I still love her.” You know what I don’t get from reading this at all? That you ever did. I mean no offense, but this post sounds like you married her because she was out of your league so you saw it as a win. “I usually enjoy being around her.” “I was obsessed with her.” “Frustrating to feel like a caretaker for her.” The question isn’t how long you fight for it, the question is what exactly are you fighting for?

Google “dismissive avoidant” and “fearful avoidant.” It sounds like he has unresolved trauma from his marriage, and it’s manifesting in your relationship. I’m (40M) divorced, and I healed from my marriage, but speaking from experience my best relationship after the marriage broke me. She was an avoidant, and now I exhibit all the things your current partner does. So again I’ll say, it’s born of unresolved trauma. He can fix it if he wants, but if he doesn’t want to it will not resolve on its own…

If you ever want to have a glimpse into the absolute disaster of how women over 40 think on Reddit, take a look at r/askwomenover40 It is one of the most disturbing subs I’ve ever come across.

Your kids are involved. Be honest but don’t be cruel. There’s nothing gained from “I don’t find you attractive.” Explain that you’ve tried and you can’t forgive the affair. The relationship is over, you still care for her as the mother of your children but not as a partner, wife, or lover. It doesn’t need to be complicated.

It’s cheating. No question. The fact that she’s shit talking you is even worse. She’s breaking you down so the other guy feels more comfortable violating your marriage. This is so he’ll be more comfortable when he eventually fucks her, if he hasn’t already. Get. The fuck. Out.

I appreciate the offer. I deleted my dating accounts, the zero matches was crushing my self esteem. My best photo was a picture of me hiking in Ireland at the peak of my physical conditioning. Generally speaking people say that was a great photo, and my others were just alright.

I don’t see it. I’m an average looking dude, 6’0, high income, exercise regularly. The fact that women are sending you likes at all is evidence that you’re above average looking. The fact that there’s a couple very attractive ones in there sending you roses means you’re well above average looking. I was on hinge for 2-3 months. I got 2 matches. Most of us do not have the endless cavalcade of women that you do, the dating apps are heavily skewed towards better looking men.

Seems extremely unlikely. You’re either engaged in the unauthorized practice of law, or you’re just straight up lying for internet points. The fact that you feel the need to respond 4 days later suggests the latter. I wish you the best of luck in allegedly defrauding the court and flouting general rules of procedure. I won’t be responding to your nonsense anymore.

This seems extraordinarily unlikely. I wish you the best of luck in your attempts to defraud the court. Watch out for rule 11, it’ll sneak up on you.

Anyone who takes your advice is going to reply to any one of these threads and ask why they got sanctioned for doing what you said. You are giving people horrible, and demonstrably bad advice.

As with most things, it depends. Do not take advice from “just claim less” guy, that’s a pretty solid way to end up sanctioned by the court. Your situation (loss of a client that was providing a massive portion of your income) has documentary evidence showing why your income was reduced for reasons beyond your control. Save all your documents, because while you can’t just “herp de derp I make less now,” you can argue that your actual earning potential is reduced by factors beyond your control. E…

How is claiming less income than you’re capable of making (140 to 40) the same as claiming less income than you’re capable of making (any number to zero)?

You’re not operating in reality. Yes, I am in fact a trial attorney. Judges still have to rule on motions; you can’t expect them to just sua sponte adjust income. But I’ll tell you that when my ex wife left her 140k a year job to take a 40k one, both my child support and alimony were calculated based off the 140, because I’m not an idiot so I asked the court to do so. Trying to manipulate numbers by quitting your job does not work if the other side is even remotely competent.

This is so completely inaccurate I don’t even know where to begin. If you claim to be jobless a court will analyze the circumstances around your being jobless. If you’ve been unemployed a long time this might work, but in any other circumstances the court is going to analyze your earning power and impute your ability to earn money onto you for this analysis. Caps on alimony vary from state to state, with some states having no cap. In Colorado it’s 50%. Regardless, perpetuating a fraud on the cou…

When I asked my ex wife how it was possible that she could continue to try extracting every cent from me, while knowing that it directly effected my ability to parent our kids, she responded “it’s just business.” Divorcing me was the greatest financial windfall anyone in her entire family has ever had.
