I'd hesitate to say there's no misogyny on /b/. Sure, a lot of the core users who truly understand this concept exist, and as has been said, a very large userbase who understands it all to be a joke and just parrots it ironically, but there's also a few who hold very warped opinions, and use the board to voice them, thinking they're being supported because of the rare way that users communicate.

We're in a subreddit that has a huge branding issue. Therefore, many users who frequent the subreddit habitually avoid any words that could be taken as offensive, and ask others to do the same, whether they're agreeing with the sub's message or not. I don't agree on one, I only know Canadian law, but jail time for one offence means an incredibly serious offence. False rape claims are incredibly serious, and deserve an actual law with sentencing, but very few extremely violent crimes actually get jail time every time. Two or three should certainly be treated quite harshly, but making a single rape accusation so serious will actually deter serious rape claims, as the feminists have argued any punishment at all will.

That last example is totally serious and the parent did the right thing. The thing is that Reddit is a corporation. The people who run it will do what's best for the profit of the site, which is just how corporations are run, and isn't evil. Their rules don't have to be consistent, because they need to make decisions on a case-by-case basis. I'd love for there to be a prominent forum where free speech is the norm and is also used by your average internet goer (4chan is a bit too hardcore for most), so we could host discussion there, but such a place doesn't exist.

I think the important thing in the first example is that the guy went in with the plan to have sex. The woman was possibly intending not to. Therefore, having sex with her would be taking advantage of her intoxication to get what you want. I was watching a movie in the theatres last night, and this trailer came on. EVERYONE, including my own mother, was laughing at the idea of a young boy being saddled with a child due to statutory rape from a teacher. that's true but poor parenting can't always be the cause. If we assume this all of the time, rebellious teens who were influenced by other teens with bad parents will do things to "get back" at their good parents who have done nothing wrong, including but not limited to sex, in which case a legal system that punishes parents works in favor of what the child thinks it wants, but contrary to what is good for them.

you bring up multiple valid points. My personal belief is that we shouldn't be THAT hard on adolescents when they have sex, regardless of gender.
