I would say that some men (and women) actually do feel threatened by the concept of gender equality, as they fear that equality might cause negative consequences for society at large, which will affect their lives as well. An example for this is equality in the military. Many men (especially men who have served along women in combat) believe that a 50/50 gender split in the military would severely downgrade the defensive capability of a nation, which would in turn affect their own safety.
