Neither of us were “hired” for either position. Someone needed to do the job and we were both moved into new roles. I was given the same basic responsibilities with additional roles and “promoted” to a lesser title.

We had exactly the same job responsibilities, yet his title came with more money. We were both responsible for ensuring quality, him in our machine shop and myself in our assembly department. I also am responsible for our metrology lab and our gravimetric analysis lab.

I discussed it multiple times with each of the supervisors I had during that period.

Neither of us do. We are in Quality, there is not really a degree program available for where we are other than a standard mechanical engineering degree.

At least I’m on the right track now. Most days the machinists deal with me as a person and put up with my perfectionism 😝. Thank you, best of luck to you as well!

I don’t disagree with you. And I’ve tried very hard to be open minded and not fall into the “becuz I’m a womun” trap. I’ve had a good career thus far and am proud of my personal progress. It’s just really hard to see it as anything else when he was over the Shop and I was over Assembly with additional responsibilities but our pay rate was SO different for so long.

I am a woman in STEM. For TWO YEARS I did the exact same job as my male counterpart. I am also responsible for our metrology lab and programming our inspection equipment in addition to my other duties. The only difference? He was an “Engineer” while I was a “Technician”. The difference in pay was significant. It was only rectified when HE went to management and complained, never mind the MANY times I brought it up. But sure, no wage gap exists.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
