I fail to see how beating an elderly gentleman to death is related to his musical talent. No one capable of using more than one percent of their brain said it was a shame that Chris Brown got in trouble for beating the shit out of Rihanna. However, all that money and fans definitely helped him dodge the sentence he deserved. This probably won't be the case for Kai. However, we won't know if he's actually guilty or not until he's convicted.

If we remove downvotes, and voting brigades begin upvoting hateful comments, will you then advocate for a removal of the voting system entirely? I was unaware of a workaround. The idea is to make it harder for trolls though. We will never be able to completely silence the truly determined, but it would certainly minimize the effect of being linked by a huge troll subreddit.

The removal of downvotes will allow them to still upvote each other, as they're already able to do, but it prevents them from punishing all the legitimate posts. I don't see how removal of the downvotes would actually hurt this subreddit. It doesn't silence anyone because downvotes are, by their nature, only a silencing tool, and trolls would still be reported and banned. The only difference is no one gets their post hidden and loses internet points over it.

If everybody was perfect and didn't downvote simply because they disagree with something, but rather because they could justify that it is unintelligent or just flat out trolling, then I wouldn't see downvotes as an issue. But this is not the case. Difference of opinion should not simply result in a post being buried in downvotes. People should not be afraid to post opinion that go against the general consensus so long as they're doing it intelligently.

Um, silencing who? They would still be able to post. People simply wouldn't be able to use the downvote button as a disagree button. There are clear incidents of large amounts of people being linked to posts in this subreddit, downvoting all the comments defending mens rights, and leaving without contributing anything to the subreddit.
