You don't have to talk about your job / future plans if you don't want to. Usually girls like it more if the conversation is more about them anyways. With a date I mean just some meetup/hangout; like grabbing a coffee or a drink and having a conversation. You do need to make your intentions clear though by escalating (kino and teasing/flirting)

Just go for it man, you have nothing to lose. Even if she rejects you, she won't be mean about it or anything. If she rejects you, then at least you can stop wondering and feeling so insecure. You're right. If you only excel at what you're doing without playing the game, you willed be played. An employer doesn't want to promote a guy that does great at his current position; knowing the game (social wise) plus excelling in your job makes you able to get promotions or job hop to better positions elsewhere. If you only act "IQ-wise" (good performance), but don't act EQ wise (socially), you won't get that promotion or the promotion won't be as much as you really deserve.

There's still some good stuff coming out from time to time, it helps if you know what kind of anime you have to look for. It's usually "shounen" anime (anime aimed for boys) that's RP. The degenerate kawaii magic schoolgirl stuff is actually aimed towards adult beta men, I'm not making this up.
