Speaking as a cop I agree. We are used to getting yelled at or people just hating us in general. Even then though nobody has ever randomly done this to me. They handled it like I would have. She’s not really resisting and they were able to over power her easily. We can’t let our anger get the best of us. This job isn’t personal so there’s no need to make it that way. For some guys though they let it get to them and that’s when you see the viral videos.

I’m a police officer and I agree with you. Look she did kick him in the face and she was actively resistant. I don’t like to Monday morning quarterback but if I’m being honest, he lost his cool and punched her after she kicked him. Her hands are behind her back and restrained. Take her to the ground. In my city, people sentenced to community service get to come out to our department shooting range and get to collect all of our brass for us. We shoot on an outdoor range too so it gets really fun to watch them sift through grass for brass. Seems like a fitting punishment for smaller crimes.

I'm definitely not taking her side here, however, I'm assuming the child is three years old by this point? He's the only sort of father figure she knows and I would imagine it would still be hard for her to lose him. Unfortunately that’s still not enough for some people. They expect us to be everywhere at all times. We are supposed to give breaks on the vehicle code and small crimes because we have better things to do. When we’re busy with big crimes we’re the bad guy because we should have been there at their call an hour ago. Police pay taxes too. If you’re concerned reach out to your police department or councilman. We don’t make the rules, just enforce them. Could be budgetary issues as to why there may not be an officer per train.

I still believe there can be honor in police work. As long as we care to better ourselves and hold ourselves accountable to help our community. Law enforcement is a practice much like medicine. It's ever-changing and we have to be open minded and change with it. That "old boy" mentality that it's all about taking care of us and ours is dying out and I'm happy for that. I want our community to trust that their police are truly interested in the betterment of communities.

Speaking as a police officer, it is absolutely not okay to hit a person you already have detained. I mean there might be a crazy hypothetical like the person has a gun which would justify it but by and large it isn't okay. The person is already restrained. Just tack on an extra charge when they kick but don't kick back. We've got to be better than that.
