It's more honest to do nothing. If you don't care about an issue enough to dedicate your time to it, then you shouldn't be trying to tell people about that issue through overt displays of loyalty. What you wear is a message about your values, and a ribbon is like an armband. It is a display of membership to a value or cause. If you aren't willing to do something with your time beyond wear the label, you are being dishonest about your values. If you find an issue that people don't know about and …

Me. I hate ribbons. I hate all visual displays of "support" for causes. All it does is give people a false sense of contribution. Care about breast cancer? Find a trustworthy research institution and write a cheque. Care about the troops? Go volunteer to help some vets. Mow the lawn for the guy with one less leg than he was born with. And then keep it to your damn self! Every Facebook post you make and every overt display you make reduces the probability of you doing something worthwhile and rai…

I'm sorry. I've been very angry about that particular issue lately.

A.K.A I didn't say that at all. In face of the grand scale of the universe and it's utterly overwhelming complexity, the only hope any person has to demonstrate their individuality and significance is to assume personal responsibility for those things that exist of the same scale as themselves. Take responsibility for your actions and the immediate consequences, to do any less would be both a moral failure and an existential failure. What I DID say up there is that propounding the belief that pe…

Any time you qualify a statement with the words "simply" or "just", be aware that whatever you have said is wrong. There is nothing, nothing at all, that is straightforward that it can be simply explained, or just resolved. Any issue, upon closer analysis, will be shown to be more complex and nuanced than you--a mere human--could possibly hope to grasp in its gestaltic entirety. Men cannot simply be more selective in choosing their partners because there is absolutely nothing simple about choosi…

My ex is a german woman who came to Canada to be with me. We made a solid go of it, but it was doomed to failure do to the confluence Canada's extremely strict (in this specific case) immigration laws and the realization that we were incompatable people. Alas, we really did care for each other and attempted to make things work. Alas2 her birthcontrol proved to be ineffective as sometimes happens. Alas3 she had to leave the country or be blacklisted, and took my son with her. Now I live in Poland…

Seamsters and Seamstresses don't reap, they rip. Sometimes you cock up and need to remove thread--then you rip what you've sewn.

That's in-group bias. Always go to a male couples therapist, there is less chance the therapist will choose a side.

Yeah, they do. Employers aren't allowed by law to offer differing hourly rates based on sex. They can't control whether or not a given employee asks for more hours, but the actual hourly rate is the same.

Wikipedia links to academic journals and the like if you want to know the actual numbers, but yeah--women can be extremely violent.

Somebody needs to go read Kiplings "The female of the species." Obviously this isn't really new, especially considering that women been shown to be much more aggressive than men (on average, I don't want to be accused of sweeping generalization) when put in situations of equality.

This is a good point, but my father would not be party to such a conversation. He'd be too embarrassed. The decisions was left up to my mother anyways, he had no truck in it.

I actually don't feel like a victim, I'm just a little peeved at the thought of that decision being made for me. I wasn't even sentient at the time, so I couldn't make it myself. But Babies grow up and develop a sense of self and such. Word has it that they turn into rational decision making adults. Shouldn't a decision like that be left for oneself when one is old enough o make it?

He's circumcised as well. I doubt he was aware of the issues, since it's not something he would be comfortable looking into.

I read the whole thing, and he makes some extremely salient points. Yes, the language is a little weighty at time, but it's well put together and unfortunately accurate.

I think when you love somebody and they love you in return AND you are both willing to work hard on the marriage and it's health and continuation...Well then it functions beautifully. But how many people are willing to actually work for somebody else's benefit and expect nothing in return but some consideration? In any healthy relationship, both partners sacrifice for the other and expect nothing in return. Somehow, though, such love is exceedingly rare

Well, let's be generous here. Women in the current society do have an onus of responsibility, and many couples share the financial burden for many of their day to day details. I pay for most of the things my Fiancé and I do, not because I must but because I wish to. I don't think finances have much to do with her emotions at all. She is emotional because that is part of her. I am logical because that is part of who I am. Furthermore, I have known many women who are as logical as I am. It's indiv…
