I disagree as i do not feel like i lived under dictatorship and did not feel like i couldnt say something or voice an opinion. Spoke many of time with my parents about their younger days who lived through the periods and they said that they never felt opressed or restricted. Had pretty normal upbringing and probly much better than you probably imagine. Russia is not a desolate people on reddit paint, the country is full of culture and great people, and anytime i had western friends come with me …

Just like there are no countries in g8 that have not performed atrocities at some point in their history... Expecting a new ideal to be perfect from beginning is very naive, took hundreds of years for UK to get to current system and it is still has massive issues on certain aspects of governence. And i bet if you were to ask some people in Afghanistan Yemen or Iraq what they see of UK as a goverement, i bet their view wont be its is a nice place who never opresses people.

Because there was dictatorship at one point doesnt mean there was dictatorship throughout the whole stint. Many checks and balances were put in place to stop dictatorship and soften the influence of the guy on the top of the party. Towards the end the politics of USSR block is very intresting and complicated. Burecracy basically killed the communistic party and damaged the countries ability to react quickly to needs of the population. Everything took forever, say one year you are short of washin…

Very different, i wish i could meet you in person and tell you all the great and bad things the change has brought. There is black and white difference between Russia today vs Russia then. To give a short hand of what Russia is like, it is not that different from the USA mentality wise.....

Am Russian grew up in Russia from communism to "democracy". Live in UK now and to be honnest, the opression you talk of can be argued to exists in western countries as well, under different means. They just go about screwing the small guy different ways.... Probably not a good idea to look down on people who choose to follow one way of doing something over your way, not everyone gets it right first time and that is fine, that is how diversity and evolution works....

Dictatorship is not singular to communism. And the idea of communism is fine by itself. Issue is the coruption of man with in the communistic apparatus if not kept in check. I grew up in Russia and the western idea of communism is very much skewed by the propoganda lead by the goverements. Please understand that dictatorships can exisist in any given goverenance with out you realising it to be so.
