It's not just 8 weeks that they miss. They also miss several weeks by needing to play catch up when they get back. Those catch up weeks are also riddled with additional pto as the kids get sick and they end up being behind for much longer. I have to train them to get them back up to speed and then train them on the advances we made while they were catching up. I have to cover when they have to leave to take care of their kids. Having a baby is not a one and done event. Pehaps earning less should…

If a person is not there learning new software releases and not there helping fix major issues that would have earned him a raise and you are, do you want him to get a raise when he returns just to keep you both on the same level even though he didn't earn it?

I (woman) make more than the women who were hired at the same time and at the same pay as me. They have both taken maternity leave at least twice while I never have. Missing months of work has set them back, as it should. I picked up the slack while they were out.
